  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

If you live in an area with a lot of potholes, you may want to go to a higher sidewall tire, and/or buy after market 18 inch wheels, which will give you more flexibility when choosing tire sizes and amount of sidewall you want.

This is good to know. I had a 2015 Genesis that I loved, but the roads in West Texas are horrible and there is oil field debris all over. So I kept blowing out tires. Eventually I went to a different vehicle because of that.

I still love the Genesis and am looking at a 2021 G90 5.0. But for sure I'll need a tire with a bigger sidewall.

What's the rationale behind after market 18 inch wheels? Are the stock rims bigger or do they limit how much sidewall you can have? (Please forgive the questions, I know jack about rims and tire sizes etc lol)

Thanks!

If you keep the outside diameter of the tire the same as your 19" wheel/tire set and run on wheels that are an inch shorter (18") you have an additional 1/2" of sidewall tire height (1/2" on bottom, 1/2" on top to visualize). If you go to a wheel that's an inch taller (20") you'll have a 1/2" shorter sidewall than your 19" wheel/tire setup. That's why 20" tire setups ride so rough, there's not much tire to absorb any impacts.
