Aftermarket Headunit

I tried to seach for this question and wasnt able to come up with anything, so please for give me if there already is a post about this.

So just the other day I took my friends 09 Genesis Sedan out for a spin since after all I'm in the market for one. Her Genesis is fully loaded with the tech package and I have to say I wasn’t too impressed that the Volume didn’t get as loud as I had hoped it would. I will say that I’m a young guy and I like to listen to my music loud. So my questions are:

Has anyone installed an aftermarket head unit?

or

Is there away to make it louder...lol?

Replacing the head unit is probably not possible given the amount of other controls linked into it. Your best bet if you are really not happy with the sound system is to hook up an amp and get some new speakers/sub(s). I think most of us are pretty happy with the quality of the sound system, volume has certainly never been an issue for me.

the sounds system is very nice but the down fall IMO is that its dosent get loud enough, so has anyone added an amp to there factory system?

Now I know this car has lots of controls linked to it but if you had the non tech package you would have less, plus there are other vehicles out there that have as many if not more than this car has and they are able to install after market head units

Some have clipped the stock sub, used the HL inputs to a new amp for an aftermarket subwoofer. I haven't heard of anybody trying to replace the stock speakers/amp. There are a ton of speakers and it would be a pain to try and replace them all with new stuff. Too many downsides IMHO.

ok ok cool, Yeah no I totally agree it has a great sounds to it but Im just looking for an aftermarket solution due to the fact that the car Im looking at isnt a Tech package. Now let me ask you something, what set up are u running? and do you have any photos of your set up with the sub?

I presume you realize that the Tech package comes with a different Lexicon setup, yes? You might want to listen to the sound in a Tech-equipped Genesis to see if that volume level is more to your liking.

BTW, as an older guy who used to blast his music and ended up damaging my own hearing, I recommend you get used to lower volumes.

well the one my friend owns is a tech equipped and it wasnt as loud as what I would have expected it to be. Thanks for the tip about lowering my volume, I dont always have my music blasting but there are times when I really want to Jam out....lol

I installed an amp and a 12" sub in the back and couldn't be happier.
FYI, I'm driving an Orion 12" HCCA 12D sub with a Orion HCCA 1200D amp.
It's output is 600watts to a DVC sub wired at 1ohm.

I've been blasting since my 1st car at 17 years old.
I'm 47 now and have been sleeping with ear plugs for over 10 years cause my ears are super sensitive...I can hear everything!

It's fun to blast music here and there I totally agree.
I also listen alot between 10 and 14 on the volume and with an additional sub it makes all the difference in the world to the sound environment.

i ripped out the sound system. the only thing i kept was the headunit. 2 subs, 2 amps, and 4 new door speakers

Loud = decibels not wattage nor fidelity. Try hitting voice commands and say "CANCEL" as it activates the amp full for symphonic sound levels. I have NEVER not thought that the volume was not adequate even in summer with sunroof and all windows open. In fact- parked you can be 100 yards away and still listen like a rock concert.

Yes I did due this since I wanted to know if it her car had not been updated, as I recall reading threw some other posts that if the car gets updated it will resolve this issue.

Head unit is not what you want to replace.
They're sending pre-amp signals anyway.
If you want more bass, then aftermarket sub/amp hooked up to the rear sub output with a hi-lo converter would be the solution.
If you want more volume(decibel), then I guess you'll have to replace the amplifier unless there's a way to control the gain of the stock Lexicon amp.
I think I've seen something related to 'gain' in the engineering menu. I wonder if it controls the gain of the amplifier.

I do not have an aftermarket sub in my vehicle. Others on the forum have. Search for "anemic bass"
