  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

OK - I just can't stand having my AV system turn itself on and start playing a file from my USB thumb drive everytime I start my car. Seems stupid and is definitely annoying.

I really don't want to have to unplug/plug it in everytime I want to listen to tunes.

So - is it possible to add a switch in the USB wiring that will prevent the stick from being "seen" by the car? I'm thinking about inserting a short USB extension cable into the console jack, with the stick at the other end and a switch wired in somewhere in the cable. Would it work?

I know - pretty clumsy idea .. any others?

Push one of the other audio functions or turn system off using round knob left side of the cd slot.

Now... I *LOVE* monoprice.com, but I don't know anything about this particular product.

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=103&cp_id=10307&cs_id=1030702&p_id=6442&seq=1&format=2 ($6.22)

I think it will do what you're looking for, but I wasn't able to find a part that would allow a more "seamless" install in your car. You'll have to keep it out of sight, but I think the "switching off" capability you're looking for is there.

Might be worth a try - when ordering from monoprice, it pays to order a whole bunch of things all at once to save on shipping. These guys have really quality stuff at unbeatable prices. Been ordering from them for years.

Good luck.

Depending on your setup, you *MIGHT* need this piece also:

I'm thinking USB thumb drive ---> USB to mini 5-pin adapter ---> USB switch ---> Car USB (using Port A). Should be able to turn off the connection by flipping the on/off switch on Port A

Again... do so at your own risk - I can't guarantee it will work. Oh one more thing I just thought of as a possible roadblock: Power. This unit is not self powered, so it would have to draw power from the car. Again, I can't guarantee it will work. I'm not that techie... but for less than $8.00 bucks (plus shipping), why not give it a try?
