  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Finally had my "CNTL/ALT/DEL" re-boot moment today

Walked up to my Genny this AM to go to church...pushed unlock on my keyfob...nothing.

Pushed the lock/unlock button on the door handle...nothing.

Unlocked the door with the key, sat down, buckled up, pushed the start button...nothing. Just a blue light blinking in the keyfob receptacle on the center console.

Pushed the keyfob into the receptacle...pushed the start button...engine fired up fine but, no NAV screen, no AV, clock showed 1:00, Trip A/B were 0.0 miles, steering wheel buttons inop, tilt/telescope/seat did not go to programmed positions (probably more stuff not working, but I didn't check).

Did a couple of shut down/restart cycles...nothing.

Drove to church...Genny drove fine (from an engine performance standpoint)...did a shut down/restart cycle when I got to church...nothing.

Came out after church...pushed the unlock on the keyfob...blink, blink, beep, beep...everything worked fine.

I've read various horror stories on this forum of folks having similar issues, the scariest being the ones where the car (motor) stops working while cruising down the highway. Invariably the fix is to shut down, wait for a few seconds/minutes/hours and try a restart.

Just wondering if anyone has ever found a root cause or received a half decent explanation from their Hyundai service rep? I'm figuring that Hyundai had Bill Gates do the software package for the Genesis. It seems to perform about as well as a Microsoft product.

Perhaps I said the right prayers in church today :D

Mine had the same issue as you mention above. All of those symptoms. The cure for my car was to secure the main breaker fuse in the driver side door and dash. It has a yellow tab on it. Mine just was a little loose, and I just tapped the fuse and it's been fine ever since.

Scott,

Thanks for the gouge. I just went out and took a look at the fuse you mentioned. I was amazed at how sensitive it was.

I just lightly tapped it and the interior lights went out (I did not check if the rest of the stuff also wasn't working). You just barely have to wiggle it to get it to disconnect. That's not a good design!! If I have the problem again, that's the first thing I'll check.

My car suffered a similar loss of electric power. Mine died on the highway and I had to pull over and it started right back up. Then over the course of the next few days was totally dead 3 or 4 times.

The dealer was stumped because the battery checked out fine as did the rest of the car. Long story short, they got the Hyundai engineers involved and the fix was to go over the entire car and clean and re-torque all the chassis grounding points. Its been fine ever since.
