  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Took a look at the Equus Signature. Very nice car. After discussions with the dealership, I have an offer that is very generous to drive away an Equus with my 2010 Genesis 4.6 Tech in trade. For those of you that have purchased the Equus or were in my situation, what are your thoughts? Happy with the car? Worth the difference to the Genesis? Worth waiting for the newer engine/trans (which I read here in the forum is expected to cost more) or do it now with a good deal?

Any input would be great. Thanks.

That's what I'm driving after an '09 Genesis 4.6 w/Tech and I couldn't be happier! Well worth the difference IMHO.
Yeah, i'd have liked to wait for 5.0/8 speed but then my trade would've been worth less. I rationalize things by thinking the ZF tranny is a proven winner while the 8 speed is an unknown, and would 40 some horses really make a difference for my needs?
Bottom line, you can make a case either way for pulling the trigger or waiting.
No regrets here.

As far as the new engine/transmission, someone with more knowlegde about that will have to answer. Is the difference between a 4.6 to 5.0 liter really enough to feel a difference? I don't know. I hope someone does chime in on the transmission-I'm curious about what the difference is between 6 or 8 speed transmission. I already feel like the cars are shifting at such low RPMs...

Keep in mind opinions are subjective... to me, the Equus isn't just a more tricked out Genesis...it's a different car. It shares some things in common, like the DIS and Lexicon...but this one feels like an all out luxury car. I'm curious if BacktoHyundai would agree with me.

When I use the sport mode, it reminds me of the Genny. This is however, a heavier car, and while it's got plenty of power, the Genny would beat you. I think the Genesis is more nimble.

Where the Equus wins hands down is the interior finishes and features and the price tag reflects that. If you've been in an Equus you know what I mean.

Another win for the Equus is the air suspension, the ability to change to sport mode, and the far superior ride and damping. There is less leaning in curves. It also has some added safety features-but that didn't affect my decision.

You could've bought a cheaper car, but you probably bought a Genesis because you like what it offered for the price. Well, you're in the same boat now. Look at it this way-no matter what you decide, you're a winner either way.

NOLa (I'll ask my husband to chime in)

While I am not ready to buy one, I have seen them both at auto shows and on the road. Certain posters here who were initially skeptical about the value and features of the Equus are now owners and very happy they are. That alone should attest to the value of the car. I don't think there is another large luxury car within $20k that offers as great a combination of performance, features and value as the Equus. The addition of the 5.0 and 8spd automatic will most definitely make the car quicker. If absolute power and acceleration are paramount in your purchase then wait otherwise from what I can see you won't be disappointed.

More to ponder:

Genesis continued its impressive growth with the 20th consecutive month of year-over-year sales increases, while Equus continued its successful launch in the midst of tight availability and strong consumer demand, delivering a year-to-date retail market share of the premium luxury segment of over 7 percent, which is 40 percent above Hyundai's target.

"According to Compete's latest data, Equus is already the most-shopped premium luxury car in the industry this year, ahead of the BMW 7-Series, Mercedes S-Class, Audi A8 and Lexus LS," said John Krafcik, Hyundai Motor America's president and CEO. "We're delighted with the positive consumer response and we are working to increase Equus availability to meet the strong demand we're seeing."

Any word on the timing of the 5.0L / 8 Speed upgrade?

Earlier reports stated that they would be available in March, but, I have not been able to find a thing about a release date since.

My dealer said they go into production in March, but the earliest you'd see them is July or August due to testing and certifications (California).
But:
1. He was talking about the Gen
2. Maybe Equus will take a higher priority
3. Things happen

Thanks everyone for the comments. They were very helpful.

I took a long test drive today and ended up driving home a platinum / black Signature Equus. It really is a very nice car. The dealer did a great job and the offer we had talked about worked out. I am looking forward to spending some time on it this weekend.

congrats.

I got the same color combination too.

Any of you plan to have the windows tinted?

No-with the sun shades and all...

Good question on the window tint. I am still up in the air on it. My Black Genesis had tinted windows and i liked it. The brochure for the Equus shows the cars with what looks like tinting in a few of the pictures and it looks great. I am still trying to make up my mind on it. Also appears the Equus has some sort of "solar control" tint in the windows already but I cant find anything on it. I dont remember my Genesis having the solar control on the windows.

I'd check with Hyundai before tinting due to that "solar" and accoustic lamination. Probably ok to tint, but I'd want their assurance that it wouldn't mess things up.

Congrats on your Horse!!!

The Genesis and Equus both do have solor glass. VLT is about 80% on then Genesis.

It's safe to tint laminated windows. The Genesis has laminated windows, the Equus just has ALL laminated windows. Might was to stay away from a metallic film with all those electronics on the Equus.
