  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So early this morning I leave my house to head off to another day at work. I just glanced at my car briefly and noticed that something seemed a little bit off.

So I walk up to it and what do I find? My car floating on two coke crates with all four wheels gone, lug nuts strewn across the ground.

For a little info, I'm living in a town house community in a quiet neighborhood, pretty off the beaten path. After the cops came they told me that a Nissan Altima had been hit just a week prior down the street (home owners association never informed anyone about that.) My Genesis is also surrounded by some BMWs, Acuras, etc - yet I was the one that was hit.

Not a good morning :(

Ouch. That sucks, my friend. Does your townhouse have a garage? If so, you might want to start using it because the thieves are likely to return.

Wow, just wow!
So sorry this happened to you.
Idiots!!!!

:(

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
WTF .. and in a parking lot full of cars. Hope all goes well with your insurance claim and I hope they catch the SOB's. Think I'm installing wheel locks this afternoon, its just I hate keeping up with the special key thing.

It's in a parking area right between two long rows of town homes. These guys must have had balls to do this right in plain sight like that.. unfortunately they got away with it.

I'm definitely going to look into wheel locks now, but after googling it and reading up a bit it seems like it would just be a minor deferent. However I suppose every little bit helps. What I would really like now is some kind of movement alarm. Hindsight is always 20/20 I suppose.

Who steals Genesis wheels? That seems so odd, and that sucks. Any damage to the car? I know GT-Rs and Corvettes can be extensively damaged by being put up like that.

They were probably pissed when they found out the wheels weren't from a Bentley after all

Same thing happened to my Vette when I left the car outside my gf's place one night.
Lowlife @#$% thieves!
Damage was close to $5k if my memory serves me right.

Sorry to hear what happened. Hope you get everything taken care of through your insurance company.
The process through mine was relatively painless.

Don't necessarily think that wheel locks will always save you. I have noticed on several occasions I have taken my other vehicles to the dealership with the wheel lock key for my wheels sitting in my garage. They had no issues with getting the wheels off the car. I believe they have a way of getting the wheels off without the key. Whether with a master key or some special lug wrench tool.

Wheels locks just slow the thieves down a little. While at the same time potentially causing a little more damage to your studs.

The bright side? The thieves will soon learn to hate the Dunlops...;)

Heck, you might even get to put the wheels/tires of your choice on the car depending on whether you get a check in hand from your insurance company. A blessing by default! It could be worse (thinking headlights or airbag). Good luck!

Very possible.
But if you have a lien on your title, the insurance company most likely won't cut a check directly to you.
What you have to do is find a body shop that will repair the body damages ONLY, and will cut you a check for the amount of wheels/tires compensation.

First I would make a list of cars that your wheels fit then I would offer a reward to some kids to find your wheels, they are probably close by.

Did you have aftermarket wheels?

Nope, just the stock wheels on the 4.6.

I've had the worst luck with this car, and it has nothing to do with the car itself (which is great.) We had a freak hailstorm that caused $1500 in damages. I slid in the snow and hit a curb which cost about $3,000 (didn't get my winter tires on in time), and now my wheels get stolen.

I just can't win :(

Careful- they might be back- new rims, new tires next time.
If a thief needs a car battery, they steal one- wait the next night and get a brand new one.

This happened to me twenty plus years ago in a parking garage in NYC. They figured out how open the hood lock by sticking something through the grill and putting tension on the cable.

Thieves be damned!
