  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm currently a 4.6 Genesis owner, and I checked out the new Equus at a local dealership while I was there for service.

First impression: Holy mother of god, it looks gorgeous.
I LOVE the side profile. It's so handsome and I have to admit, it looks way better than the Genesis.
I think I like the rear design of the Genesis better, but the overall mass/proportion looked better on the Equus.
That flying H emblem has to go. Period. The KDM wing emblem would look much better, also it'll look cleaner without the "EQUUS" on the trunk.

With the bigger, chrome 19" staggered wheels, the car looked more classy and sexy.
It was the exact same color as mine; Platinum Silver, and it was a good comparison between the two. I definitely prefer the look of the Equus.

Now the interior. The all-black interior looked luxurious and more spacious than my cashmere interior. All the buttons from seat adjustments to temperature knob was of better quality than the Genesis.
The door operation was way smoother and more of a heavy 'thump' compared to the cheaper feeling 'clap' of the Genny.
Buttons on the door had no play or rattle whatsoever. On the Genesis, I had to disassemble the whole button control unit and add insulation material to eliminate any vibration-induced noise when I crank up the Lexicon system.
Again, much better build quality everywhere.

One thing I REALLY liked about the Equus was the seat.
Although it didn't have more bolsters or support compared to mine, it had more adjustability like the extending seat bottom.(I always thought the seat bottom felt too short for me, not supporting my thigh/knee enough on the Genesis)
Plus the power operated headrest control is nice for people like me who's bothered by the headrest 'creeping up' every once in a while.

Bummer I didn't have enough time to test drive one.
Actually, it might have worked out better for me because if I did drive one, I would've had a hard time not buying one.

I think the Equus is up to par with the top dogs from BMW, Benz, Lexus, Audi.
I will seriously consider one hopefully within the next few years.

Dan

Great quick review/comparison. Thank you!

Thank you for the wonderful observations; especially considering you are a current Genesis owner so you can accurately compare both. I did see one finally on the road the other day and it was impressive to say the least. My Equus Champion sales person said he has sold 4 so far and all of his customers love them. This is the Signature trim level? Your impressions of the back seat? I agree the H logo needs to be removed from the trunklid but I would like them to keep the Equus nameplate as it is both elegant in the name and the style of the lettering. A refreshing departure from other luxury marques today that are simply identifying their model lines with a bunch of confusing letters and numbers. Lincoln is the biggest offender for this! So freaking confusing to keep their different cars and suvs straight. I am alittle perplexed though as to why the rear passenger windows do not lower all the way into the door..

No problem, sir! ;)

Yes, the one I sat in was the 'Signature' trim.
I think I would actually prefer the Signature trim due to seating capacity alone. Not often do I haul 5 people in the car, but it would be a major pain if I need to.

I haven't tried opening the rear window all the way down, but the Genesis' window does go all the way down. I guess the Equus' rear windows not having a partition/split window makes the whole window too big to tug it under the door panel.

Anyway, I'm really impressed with the Equus. I'm trying to talk my better half into getting one instead of the 5 series.
Although she's impressed with the car, she likes having AWD on the 535xi for the peace of mind.
She just refuses to listen to what I say after experiencing the Dunlops on my Genesis. (Doesn't get the concept of different rubber compounds on different tires. Ugh)
Me personally, I would NEVER get a smaller, AWD Bimmer that costs $10k more than the Equus.

Every Equus I have in invertory now has the "flying H" on the trunk replaced with the emblem similar to the original hood emblem less the word Equus on it. The Emblems come from Hyundai Korea not HMA. Some the hood emblems have been replaced with the wings. Looks Great!

Who really cares about the name plates? My son was so excited to tell me about a high end car he had the luxury to drive a few years ago and when I asked who makes that vehicle? he stumbled right there and asked if I was kidding with him. He said "Mom when I was a kid You would tell him the year, make, and model of any vehicle on the road just by the tail lamps"....ha! there were a lot less models available then
