  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Have any of you guys used a BatteryTender or Trickle Charger to charge the battery on the Genesis? If so, did you connect it directly to the battery terminals or did you charge the battery using the posts under the hood of the car?

I connected directly to battery.

did you remove the battery first, or connect it to the battery while it was still connected to the car?

I connected directly to the battery with the little Battery Tender pigtail plug when I did my trailer hitch light wiring. No problems and works fine

If you are going to use a battery charger, consider this one, it is among the best there is in terms of charger (except no 55AMPS boost). It is used in Porsche. I have two such charger.

Hi TJ,

As you may know I store my car in my garage during the winter months. I have a trickle charger hooked right up to the jumping posts under the hood. Works fantastic.

Should have the car out in a week or so, I'm pumped!:D

I charge it with the battery connected and still in the trunk. also since the wires are small on my charger I close the truck lid so not have trunk light on while it is charging in my garage.

Cool, this is what I was hoping for. I didn't want to have to remove all the stuff from the trunk and have the trunk lid open all night. Thanks for your help.

As a preventative measure. I was at the BMW dealer, and the service adviser, suggested getting a trickle charger. He said todays car rely so much on electronics, which is why you see such massive batteries. Plus I don't drive a lot and most of it is short trips city driving.

Haven't done it with my Genny, since I'm retired now, but in the old days here's what I did with my Saab (and later my Volvo) when I deployed overseas for 6-7 months:

1) Fresh fluids all around (engine oil, coolant, PSF and brake fluid)
2) Full tank of gas + can of stablizer
3) Up on jack stands (no weight on the tires)
4) Battery disconnected, removed from the vehicle and stored it in a cool, dry location
5) Car cover

I never had a problem with the cars when I returned home.

Owners of Genesis sedans - battery charger - what brand of charger are you using and what amp? I need to look for one. NOCO 7200 seemed to fit, how about the Costco battery tender? Thanks for your feedback.
