  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

First, please excuse any typos. I know how to spell and use proper grammar, but I'm still getting used to this iPad.
Secondly, for those that don't know, I'm coming out of 2009 Genesis w/Tech. We didn't have Smart Cruise Control back in the old days (for example), so when I extol it's virtues don't be rolling your eyes and saying "my Gen has that". (Actually, do what you want!)
Thirdly, this is in no particular order though I'll try to keep it semi-organized.
So...

This was a trip from the Chicago area to the Orlando area for a vacation. Mrs. Bthbc, who wanted to fly, insisted we spend no more than 1 night on the road. What could I say other that "yes dear"? So the 1100 mile journey was broken into a 12 hour drive, then an 8 hour drive the next day. As one who doesn't smoke in the car while she's in it, that meant a brief stop every 90-120 minutes. Which leads me to my first observation:

Seat Comfort:
I saw a review on Autoblog that complained about leg and back pains after a 300 mile drive. Either we're of different body types than the reviewer, or the smoke breaks mitigated the so-said "lack of cushioning and side bolsters". No aches or pains here, and I assure you I'd have heard about it there were any complaints from the passenger seat. The seats were very comfy on this trip, but then again I didnt have to keep my legs in one place because of...

Smart/Adaptive Cruise Control:
Yowza! As one who NEVER used CC on the Genesis I was blown away. You can literally drive a couple hundred miles without ever touching the brake or gas pedal. I found it completely trustworthy, though in hairy situations I was poised to take over. Only had to once when it didn't pick up a motorcycle. Some will complain that technology like this just makes us dumber drivers, ala cash registers that tell HS dropouts how much change to give. I can see that to a point, but overall I'd rather have correct change and a safer vehicle at highway speeds. I never relinquished control, just let it do most of the work for me. Probaly better than me too. Hard to admit. Forget I said that!
But...

Lane Departure Warning:
Never used it. In winds, at speed, I don't trust trucks and towers so intentionally pass way on the left. That would create too many chirps and seatbelt strangleholds for me to tolerate. I could see it being useful if tired and had a need to stay awake, but was never in that condition.

Ride Quality/Suspension:
Amazing. Never felt a bump, clearly the most comfortable car I've ever driven. Night and day comparison to the Genesis, and I actually liked the Genny's ride. Was poised to get the 2012 in fact. Sooo glad the Horse whispered my name in the showroom!

Navigation:
This is the feature from which I didn't expect much, but was blown away. In 27 months with the Gen I may have used it fewer than 5 times. Hardly a sample size worth mentioning. But I've certainly read thread after thread here complaining about it, and telling me how great Garmin or Tom-Tom is in comparison. Now, I find that hard to believe:
Never having made this trip before, it was all unknown to me. The turn by turn was flawless, especially in the Orlando/Kissimee area where you can't go in a straight line from one place to another. Most impressive was the night it took us from Kissimee to a specific address in The Villages about 90 minutes away. I'd have been lost for sure without it.
Also made extensive use of the POI feature. Was especially helpful around Marietta GA (you listening CliffBig?) when driving from hotel to Frankie's Italian for dinner. Food was so good we stopped there on the return trip. Excellent!

Odds & Ends:
Every rest stop, every restaurant parking lot, people were checking out the car. You'd think I was driving something exotic. But most impressive was that I never got a negative reaction to Hyundai. Just compliments and questions, no negativity. Mrs. Bthbc was impressed by this, and actually took some pride in the ride so to speak.

Took the car to Orlando Hyundai to wash the bugs and mud off the car. They detailed it to showroom new despite my asking for a "quick wash". Amazingly, no charge! Great service from dealer who "gets it".

Did I mention Frankie's Italian?

Anyway, that's the trip. As always, your mileage may vary!

Forgot a category...

Handling:

Not quite as good as the Genesis on twisting, winding curves or quick lane changes. I guess that's the difference between a luxo sedan versus a sports sedan, but it was noticeable to me. Not really a complaint as much as an observation/learning experience. Btw, sweeping curves at speed were just fine.

Good to hear you had a safe and enjoyable trip.

Here in North Georgia there are some winding roads in the mountains, in fact the road to our neighborhood is very curvy-I use the sport mode quite often and I find the steering to be more like the Genesis.

Did you go up I-75 and not eat at Pappadeaux's!?!

By the way, saw a black Equus and the couple lived in Rome, GA and said they loved it. Maybe one day I'll run into Cliffbig.

NOLa

PS-Wish I had known y'all had overnighted near...we would have be glad to meet you. We could have used the gift card to help defray dinner expenses!

We have Pappadeaux here too, wanted something different. Btw, if you try Frankie's go to the one on Canton. It's the original.

As for a meet-up, I thought of that but was afraid to commit not knowing exactly how long it would take to get there, or our condition upon arrival. Next time for sure!!!!

Also..
Parked the Equuus next to a rebadged Gen overnight at the Hilton Gardens. Don't know if he saw it or not, but felt pretty safe re door dings (if you know what I mean).

If you went to the Frankie's on Canton, you were 400 yards away from my comic book shop, Dr. No's, located in Blackwell Square Shopping Center at 3428 Canton Road. Odds are 50/50 my Equus would have been in the parking lot, in fact--I alternate between driving it and driving the MDX depending on whether I'm having to pick up a large shipment of stuff for the store or not.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!

Is that the Center with Big Lots and Johnny's? If so, I was actually there:
The hotel sent us to Johnny's after we described what we were looking for Saturday night. We walked in, walked out, and drove to Frankie's instead.
As I said to NOLa, I thought of trying for a meet-up (rodeo?) of Horse owners but decided against for the reasons above. Next time for sure...

Btw, I'm not cross-posting this at Think Tank: boycotting them until I can access the site on my iPhone and Hyundai-supplied iPad. They say "it's coming".

Close--we were the NEXT shopping center to the north, while the Johnny's shopping center was just south of Frankie's. (There's a Goodyear in our shopping center.)

And I've cut way back on my Think Tank usage since I can't access them through my IOS devices. It amazes me that Hyundai can be so forward-thinking and so old-technology-entrenched at the same time; their forum is the most cumbersome, antiquated, user-unfriendly of any forum in which I participate.

First of all, congrats on the beautiful ride. Secondly, just wanted to say that I stopped by my Hyundai dealer again today, and saw my first Equus up close.

WOW

Amazing automobile.
