  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have been searching everywhere to get an idea how much I should expect to pay for cpe 2.0T..base model..

And..weirdly..the price has been changing so much that I cannot be sure what I should be expecting from dealer.

BTW, I live in San Jose..and willing to drive a couple of hours to pick up the car.

I just got a quote with $21.995(+ tax, license, $55 doc fees and $8.75 tire fees=OTD 24,441)..I just started negotiating today..so I know It's not reasonable price.

BTW..that price includes rebate..

does anybody have suggestions?..

I was thinking around 20k, which makes OTD around 22.5k, I think.

Base price is $23100 plus freight. Dealer cost is $22030 plus freight. There is a $1000 rebate for competitive makes or owner loyalty, one or the other or $500 military cash. Considering that the the salesman may want his commission and the dealer has to make some profit, the price you got is about all you can expect. As you get to the lower end models there is not a whole lot of room to move.

I know a co-worker just got a base 2.0T for 22K plus change taxed, tagged, and down the road. Basically, if the number is written on a page it is generally BS.

wait..so ur coworker paid what I got in above quote?..
"22K plus change taxed, tagged"...is it OTD?..If so, where does she live?

hm..I got what u are saying..still, i think they wouldn't provide me the best deal I could get on first email..
should I aim around 23.5k OTD?

If you are just dealing with the dealer via email then you will never get a serious price. Salesmen look at these requests as looky-loos that are not today buyers. The only way you are going to get a serious price is to go down to the dealer cash in hand, financing ready and fight for the price you think you should get. Within reason, a dealer will not let you walk without giving you the best price he can because at that point he may not get another shot at the sale and by the fact you went there ready to buy you are a serious buyer. People who continually seek best pricing by email are usually blown off as not really serious and probably sending the same email to 20 other dealers. The one thing dealers will not get involved in is a bidding war if they can at all avoid it. It does nothing except web-saw prices lower and create an environment where no one makes any money because the dealers are beating up on each other.

South Central PA I believe, close to the MD border. Dealers have been pretty hard hit in PA in general. I purchased a 2011 MB E350 Bluetec back in November and got just under 12% off of the sticker, OTD. Over 9K off sticker. Cars are all about location and timing. If I had waited a month longer, I could have gotten my same deal plus 4 years free maintenance. It is all about timing, or as they say, "it's the economy, stupid". Local economies greatly impact pricing. The damndest thing is that I absoultely have no doubts that the dealer did not lose a penny on my sale.

it looks like no dealer would give me cheaper than what I got from internet..which is 21,922 for 2.0T..which makes around OTD $24400. and probably, I will get rebates on that..then what?...OTD $23k???!..hm.

I want to buy a car by this month because I thought it would be cheaper..you know ..end of month and memorial day sale..

since I don't get any cheaper, I guess will just wait more until 2012 cpe comes out and buy 2011...
