2012's here???

Actually the best Genesis deal for me, IF the new suspension can be installed, would be a "loaded" 2011 4.6. On the Prices Paid thread '11 tech 4.6's are being had for 37k +/- 700. So a "new" 4.6 tech with the new suspension at that price might be the best financial deal. Of course folding mirrors, more comfortable seats (someone reported this), great headlights and an even more porwerful engine are very tempting.
 
you would also miss out on the 8 speed tranny which technically hasn't been tested

From that, I noticed the P235/50R18 Michelin Energy Saver A/S that are optional on the 3.8, standard on the 4.6. This guy said 19's... don't you just love an uninformed salesperson? Anyways... this is a decent tire - CERTAINLY much better than the Dunflops!

I think it will more a case of detuning the non R Spec V8.

But you did state that if they had the 2012 ready by Fall of 2011, that it would have been released as a 2011 model - which, still, totally overlooks the planning on their part.

Hyundai plans for these changes to be ready by a certain date - which they don't necessarily always meet.

When it comes to launching new models or a MCR, Hyundai lately has planned to release them earlier in the year to the "biggest impact."

However, when it comes to the typical model year changes; like when Hyundai added new features to the Genesis after its first model year, the new year Genesis models were launched in late Summer (the typical time for such launches).

Like I already stated, Hyundai has gotten aggressive w/ their timing of new model year launches (such as for the 2012 Sonata) since they need to keep up with the ever competitive MPG wars (just as GM is doing with the Cruze - which is also getting a bump in its MPG rating).

But June is as early as they are going to go w/ year to year model changes, and as I stated prior, the 2012 Elantra is already out even tho it's only been a few months before the 2011 hit the dealer lots in numbers and the 2012 doesn't have any significant changes.

If the MPG improvement to the Sonata had been ready earlier, Hyundai would have either still held off a 2012 launch until June or just introduced the Sonata with improved fuel economy as a 2011.5 change.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree.

I don't think Hyundai would hold back new features just to launch in 1Q of the next year, if they could have been released in Sept of previous year. Your view seems to be very marketing-centric, as if marketing people can do whatever they want without regard of how long it takes manufacturing to build it.

My view is that becasue of competitive pressures they try and bring improvements to market as soon as they can, which often times is early in the calendar year.

You're misconstruing what I'm saying.

I'm not saying that Hyundai is going to hold back on improvements (esp. those dealing w/ ever increasingly impt. fuel economy improvements), but that such improvements, depending on the timing, won't necessarily result in a new year model change-over (and instead, be a "running" or ".5" change).

Let's say Hyundai improves the fuel economy on the Sonata further around Oct/.Nov. of this year - they aren't going to launch the 2013 Sonata then or even launch it as a 2013 model in Jan; most likely, it'll be a 2012.5 model.

I purchased the Energy Saver 235-50-18 A/S a couple of weeks after it was first released in this size. When I found out this was going to be an OEM tire for Hyundai I just knew this tire was going on the 2012 Genesis with 18" wheels. To insure good ride quality Hyundai pulled the Ultra High Performance Tire from this car. With the way this tire rides Hyundai would have had to make only a few adjustments to the 2012 Suspension.

When it's time to change the Dunlops (next year for me) I will trying these out. Seems Hyundai has been following your posts on the tires you've been going through lol. :)

If it had not been for my tire dealers interest in all of this and making it possible for me to do so I may have still been riding on the Dunlop's.

Hyundai just realized that with the suspension refinements on the 2012's with 18" wheels it was probably best to pull the Ultra High Performance tires.

037 the "Car and Driver" describes what many of us wanted...the car is great except the ride over the rough. Hyundai listened and I for one will pony up for the better riding '12. An alternative would have been a simple way (with the support of Hyundai) to upgrade the prior years suspension to the present. Hyundai should put an upgrade kit together and I'll just bet that kit would be hugely popular. I guess I can understand their reluctance to do something like that but It sure would make me feel better about the company.
 
I am very interested to see skidpad numbers and braking, as those items should have gotten a major upgrade. It was kinda obvious the car would be faster with a bigger motor but what else can it do...
