  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Last year I setup a 250G Seagate GoFlex portable hard drive in my sons Toyota 4Runner.....we put 58 gig of mp3 music (thats a ton of music) on the drive. Each CD we converted to MP3 and put in it's own folder (folder was labeled the title of the album).

My son was visiting and I had a chance to plug in his GoFlex hardrive to the USB port on my wife's Genesis.....it worked perfectly.....the album titles showed up on the screen, you picked the album u wanted and bingo it started playing...

Of course now my wife wants the same thing for herself and my project will start with converting all of her CD's to mp3, getting a new portable hard drive and loading it up.....

the only thing I seemed to remember when we did this about a year ago was that the GoFlex hard drive had to be formatted in fat16 or fat32 (idiosyncrasy of Toyota 4runner)......new win7 and vista won't let you do that and I had to go find a small utility that would...don't know if this would be the same fot Hyundai

it's a little time consuming to get it all done but think about the fact that you can have your entire music collection plus anything else that can be converted to MP3 available in the car.

anyway just thought I'd pass this along for all you music lovers.

Have fun.

before someone asks, here is the utility to format large drives in Fat32

Download Download Fat32Formatter 1.0 - A software utility that helps you format drive larger than 32 GB to FAT32 - Softpedia

Unzip the program, open it and select the drive you want (ensuring there is nothing on the drive, it will be erased).
Click on the start button in the lower right corner.
Wait 2-5 hours depending on the size.

need to be patient to do this!

According to page 4-117 of the owner's manual, it is:

"Use only a USB device formatted to FAT 12/16/32."

Nice catch so if u want to do this you'll need this small utility to format the drive!:)

Absolutely, unless you're running Snow Leopard on a Mac which can still format as FAT16 or FAT32 using Disk Utility.
