  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

As I get older, I get pickier about noise inside the cabin, and I get annoyed by the loud road noise in my Honda Accord. That is a big reason I am interested in the Genesis. While looking at Consumer Reports car ratings, I could only find 10 cars that had the highest rating for quietness. The Genesis and Lexus ES350 are the cheapest in this elite group.

These cars are all rated "excellent" for quietness, which includes instrumented measurements and subjective judgement:

Lexus
-ES
-LS

Hyundai
-Genesis
-Equus

Mercedes
-E class
-S class

BMW
-5 series
-7 series

Audi
-A8

Jaguar
-XJ

The Genesis is a very quiet car. Once you get better tires, it is even quieter.

i have the un-quiet tires lol and like Gambler says, it's a very quiet car.. cruising at 90mph is quieter than any car i've owned at half that speed. the Genesis, my friend's MB E350 & another friend's LS460 are all in the same ball park for quietness (i'd put the Genesis in the middle of those cars with the Lexus as top car).

At 75mph, I can hear some wind noise. I have the base 2012 without a sunroof. Having never owned a luxury car, is this typical of cars in this class?

My 2012 v6 is exceptionally quiet. This was a very big factor for us. It came with Michelin tires that must be much quieter than previous years/models.

We traded a 2008 Honda Accord EX-L 4cyl Auto for a 2010 Genesis 4.6 Tech mostly because of the noise (and absence of torque). The Genesis solved these problems while only costing a 'few' more bucks. After driving the 4.6, the Germans became too expensive and problematic for use as a daily driver. We've had zero problems with the Genesis and my wife LOVES it. However, I do suggest you drive every car under consideration before you buy. Good luck with your choice.

Mine's not that quiet anymore as I changed out exhaust system. I get smiles from others when they hear it.

I recently drove a 2012 v-6. It was VERY quiet, except that I could just barely hear a slight wind noise. It seemed to be coming from the side-view mirror, which is not unexpected. I laughed when I realized that the only reason I could hear it was because the interior is so quiet at 70 mph!

My 2010 3.8 was quiet with the OEM Dulops, but when I put on a set of Conti Extreme Contacts it became even quieter and smoother riding.

Very glad to hear that! I have a set of conti extreme contacts (dw) in my garage just waiting for its car to arrive... Can't wait to put them on!

Cheers,
Newman

Let us know if you see the same difference I did - it is subtle but noticeable, to me at least.

Will definitely review. However, this will be my first Gene - I only ever test drove the 12. I plan to exchange the wheels and tires the moment the car arrives at my door. I then plan to sell the 19 wheel/tire package that came with the car.

Cheers,
Newman

I just had Michelin Pilot Sport AS+ tires installed and am very pleased with how quiet my Genesis has once more become. I also got a $70 rebate from Michelin and a $50 rebate from Discount Tire here in Texas and the net cost with lifetime balance came out to $756!

:)

Well keep me in mind $ for your OEM wheels or wheels/tires Newman. I really like the 19" R Spec wheels and it seems that this is a perfect size wheel for the Genesis.

I'd go so far as to say it's not subtle at all. To me it was very noticeable.

Probably depends on how you drive. I do not drive slowly on open roads, but I also do not accelerate, corner, or brake aggressively, so I'm generally not pushing the tires very hard. On a smooth highway surface, which gets increasingly harder to find as maintenance is deferred due to money woes (pick your culprit), the Genesis is as quiet as any car I've ever experienced. On rougher surfaces the noise is greater, but the ride is still a lot better than the Dunlops.

I bought my Genesis used with 18k miles and it still had OEM Dunlops. I replaced them recently after running up another 8k on the car - the difference is huge. When I would get above 60 the noise increased substantially - I had a feeling it was tires - my new Pilot Sport AS+ make the car unbelievably quiet at any speed

that's good to know.
i will replace my dunlops when it becomes noisy. currently it has only 7k miles, and i am happy with them.

Read all the posts and just will add that the engine noises under conditions of enthusiastic acceleration are more than my wife would like to hear.

For my part, I like the throaty sound that it makes. Takes me back!

To each her/his own.

Road noise is very subdued in the Genesis. Generally, a very quiet ride.
