  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Ready for prime time?

1. Shortly after purchase, I noted that the hood was not aligned well with the right front fender. I took it to dealer, and it was "within tolerances", though the service manager laughed that it was noticeable.

2. The leather in the Genesis is soft and beautiful, but is already stretching out of shape, giving the appearance of an older car.

3. The steering wheel leather is now rough, and covered with small tears in the leather that I consider evidence of "non-durability"

4. The plastics of the interior peel under my apparently razor sharp fingernails, leaving defects in the plastic

5. The design of the center console holds crumbs in the seams, and it is really hard to clean the interior seams compared to ANY OTHER CAR I'VE HAD

6. The left foot rest pedal is disproportionately TOO FAR AWAY TO BE COMFORTABLE. (Of course this is an opinon)

7. When I wash my car ( which I do often) I note the water that runs into the trunk when I open it to dry, and there is no car that holds more water in the door seams. The car DOESN'T LEAK to the interior, but I have to open the doors to dry, else there is lots of water spots left on the rocker panels, and especially on the rear bumper that doesn't drain well.

Of course, this is just off the top of my head, but my point was that I LIKED the GENESIS, consider it a value, if a "different" one, and also recognize some of it's strengths, but I do not perceive the durability of it's interior beauty, nor the fit and finish to match that of the Infiniti, or Lexus. Maybe the Japanese quality is starting to suffer now, as they try to compete some on price, but their quality for the past two decades before that was unassailable.

You almost seem angry at my opinion, but I just want Hyundai to hear all this and fix it, for my next Genesis.

Not angry :D Please share pictures of you hood, steering wheel and plastics?

I completely reject your EMPHASIS that the Infiniti is so vastly superior. Ive rented a couple Infiniti and they have been fine drivers....more road noise and very harsh rides but otherwise decent cars at the low end of the luxury segment. However, you lose all credibility in a forum like this we you make such exaggerated and fallacious comments.

My list of problems with my Genesis compared to Infiniti.

1. Shortly after purchase, I noted that the hood was not aligned well with the right front fender. I took it to dealer, and it was "within tolerances", though the service manager laughed that it was noticeable. I have never found such a misalignment in my Lexus' or previous Infiniti's

2. The leather in the Genesis is soft and beautiful, but is already stretching out of shape, giving the appearance of an older car.

3. The steering wheel leather is now rough, and covered with small tears in the leather that I consider evidence of "non-durability"

Duly noted the Genesis is a very good car. I have one!
But if lists are called for here’s one.
My list of problems with my Genesis compared to my Infiniti.
Navigation:
1. No Bluetooth indication status on “Map Screen”.
2. Limited and unreliable verbal command system with robot like verbal feedback.
3. What’s this “SDS system not ready try again later”
4. No quick “Store location function” (In G say “Store Location”).
5. Inadequate response to congested traffic condition on route. (G notes this and asks if rerouting is wanted one button press is all that is required)
6. No 3D graphics display.
7. Limited icon reference point selection for designated location.
Audio:
1. Inconsistent random play functions from storage medium at startup.
2. Sometimes comes on at startup even though it was off at shutdown.
Environmental Control:
1. No verbal control of temperature.

General:
1. Key FOBs don’t distinguish between different stored memory selections.
2. Very limited verbal command structure. (frequently inaccurate)
Note: Comparing a “4 year old car”.
There’s more but if lists are necessary this should suffice.

As a past owner of 2 Acura's, I can tell you that your list is small compared to the problems I had with Acura. Most recently rattles developing in the dash and doors of a 2010 TL at 4,000 mis. Paid the same for the Acura as the Genesis My 2005 went to the dealer 11 times in the 1st year for rattles. I thought it an anomoly but the 2010 proved it wasn't.

Acuras, particularly the TL, have had issues w/ cracked dashboards - kinda a weird problem to have.

The only way Hyundai can afford to sell the Genesis for thousands less than other cars with equivalent features is lower margins, lower manufacturing costs, or some combination of the two. Less expensive parts likely account for some of the delta, and those may lead to a cheaper feel and/or less durability. Personally, I'm quite happy with the balance they've achieved in the Genesis, but only time will tell.

I don't know how much Hyundai's going to put into adding features to the current navigation system, especially with Blue Link starting to become available. It could be that Blue Link in some form or another will be the only nav-type package offered on the Genesis and Equus at some point.

As for Infiniti, build quality in the G35 definitely improved over the years. I have the first model year G, and it had reliability problems with the sound and A/C systems. The sheet metal in the trunk is so thin that stuff rolling around inside dents it very easily - i have a few reverse dents to prove it. :)

Bottom line, dollar for dollar - there is not a superior car on the market in this segment.[/QUOTE]

I have my 2009 Genny 4.6 Tech almost two years now, after a 2007 M35. I had no problems with the Infiniti and would gladly have upgraded, but for the $10,000 additional. I don't recall a single problem with the M35 except for replacing a tire at 3,000 miles and new brakes at under 30,000. Otherwise it was an exceptional car. I commuted once a week from NYC to Philly with up to three additional passengers with plenty of room, including luggage.

I love the Genny, but, sorry to say, its no M35. Recently the Lexicon went NUTS!! It turned itself on when I turned it off, changed modes, changes volume, etc. The problem went away after a few days, but I decided to take my wife's Prius on the three hour drive rather than fight the premium sound system. It resolved itself and I attribute it somehow to the workers at the inside/outside car wash. But it scared the hell out of me. I've now used all modes and it seems solid, but I never experienced anything like in on the M. I've never had a problem with the seat or steering wheel reset or backup camera, but I sure envy the auto folding side mirrors, blind spot detectors, intelligent cruise control, A/C passenger seats and self closing trunks of some other luxury cars.

Sorry but your random musing does not make sense.

You have had one peculiar incident in three years and that makes your car no M35?

Then you pine for features not available on your 3 year old car that might be on other new models (including the 2012 Genesis) but conveniently forget that the current MY Genesis still costs less than those competitors by$10-$15k or more - as if to suggest that your car is deficient for costing $10k less but is STILL MISSING certain features that you would prefer?

$ for $.... there is simply no equal or superior car available in the market in this segment.

Dude, you're preaching to the choir about TL rattles. I loved my Acura, and drove it for 160K miles with only one major repair (catalytic converter). But it had more squeaks and rattles from day one than the car I had prior to the TL (a 3.5 Nissan Altima). It's the very reason I vowed not to buy another Acura (well that, and the 5 speed transmission). I loathe cheap-sounding cars on the inside.

i had rattles on my accord coupe since almost new. i accepted it as a honda thing and said to myself that if i had paid more for an acura TL i would not have this problem, but i guess i am wrong.

Rattles and when I shifted from Park to Drive ater the car sat overnight; there would be a clunk noise. The Acura forum guys said that's just Honda being Honda. I hated it.
