  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I just bought a 2011 3.8 Genesis sedan premium package with 7940 miles. The dealer told me either the owner of the dealership or the general manager put the miles on the car but after reading this forum sounds like it could have been a loaner.

What are the thoughts on a loaner vehicle sold as new? I paid $28,232.00.

Seemed like a good deal to me but really want to also know thoughts on purchasing the additional warranty?

Thanks,
Rod

I don't understand why you think a car with 7940 miles on it (even if it was only driven by the owner or GM) is being sold as new?

I meant it was being sold with the full warranty. Obviously not "new" with almost 8K miles. The sticker in the window was $36,485 so I got a little over $8K off list with full warranty so the 8K miles really doesn't matter to me. I looked into used 2011 Genesis and the price was higher than what I paid.

Thoughts on my original question?

Cheers,
Rod

You did great Rod / congratulations. Re warranty: from a financial standpoint, expected value of this is probably less than what you would pay. Peace of mind may be worthwhile to you.

Technically the car was sold as new with new car warranty, since it has never been titled. It is almost impossible for any of us to know the difference between 8K dealer owner or dealer GM miles, versus 8K loaner miles, since we don't know any of those who drove it. Probably not much difference, but you never know. But I doubt seriously if any cars claimed to be driven only by owner or GM were actually only driven by them (very typical BS claim by car salesman).

As to warranty, if the car had Tech Package, and I was keeping it awhile, I would probably spring for the Platinum Warranty, which covers audio system and all electronics beyond the 3 year or 36K mile warranty on those items. I don't think Premium and Base editions have had as many problems as Tech Package. But if you can get 10 year Platinum warranty for about $1100 it might be worth it on Premium Package if you keep the car a long time.

it's a very good price. congrats.

your nav and audio system are covered for another 28k miles. depending on your comfort level, you might want to buy the hyundai platinum plan to cover those items.

It is the Premium edition and I sure hope to keep it a long time. I prefer to keep cars 10-12 years if possible.

I put 15-20K miles per year on my cars so I asked them about a 6 year 100,000 mile Platinum warranty and it brought the cost down almost $400 to about $1,100. I turned it down initially but might call back and add it. I will just pay for it instead of adding it to the cost of the car. Finance rate was 2.9%.

Thanks,
Rod
