If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

yup...That's what some journalists are calling the car

A Dragon in a Tuxedo

The local Engineering tech took a look at it to find out where the antifreeze smell was coming from
They put a scope through the heater hose opening into the firewall and ended up replacing an o ring inside
checked the car out - and all is well

Apparently there's also a software update coming soon - to help with the shift lag from the 8 speed transmission

picked up a K&N filter ;)
Prowling the internet for a good exhaust

Race Precision inc - out of California might make one -

Happy to have the Dragon back....

Oh yeah....... had the Genesis wings put on :)

What do you think ?.....with headers - intake and exhaust - I bet the car puts out 460-470hp to the crank

Hmm is that update for all 2012 genesis or just the 5.0 R-Spec?

And congrats on getting the car back! Also the wings make a big difference in looks.

no pics?

Not sure if the update is for all the models - but i suspect it is only for the new 8 speed transmission

so the R Spec and 4.6 are covered

does the 6 cylinder get the 8 speed ..... it should in my opinion

not sure when the update will be coming - but the service manager said it was definitely going to happen - apparently hyundai are getting an earful from new and current owners

as far as posting pics ....I'm terrible with computers - so i will need to have someone give me a hand - then i can post them

I'd like to hold off till i get the new exhaust - and post a video

I plan on doing a comparo with the infiniti M56 and BMW 550i in the spring/summer

but not till i get the new intake and exhaust on the car

Yes, the 2012 V6 gets the same 8-speed. Better gas mileage and cheaper than purchasing from Aisan (of ZF for V8's).

However, shift points and gear ratios are probably different for all three trims.

They desperately need a software update for the car

and paddle shifters

no joke

the transmission shifts are way...WAY too slow

I'm surprised they didn't correct such a blatantly obvious issue with the shift lag - and in a new 8 speed no less - in a revamped car line up

it's unnacceptable really

The 2012 Genesis sedan transmission is new design from Hyundai and it is not going to have the same level of refinement for a brand new design as compared to a proven design from Aisin or ZF where all (or most) of the kinks have been worked out over time. Whether or not these issues can be addressed with software patches, or require mechanical changes, remains to be seen. Hyundai will not make mechanical changes to existing units unless it causes a serious safety issue or causes the transmission to fail, so you better hope they can fix it with software patches.

IMHO the 8 speed tranny is far superior than the ones on prior year Genesis. To me it's very smooth it doesn't lunge forward it's quite when it warms up and to me it's very responsive.

Just don't use the tiptronic option....lol

I've had the car skip shift from 3rd into no mans land and slam the transmission at 60 mph - even chirped the tires on the highway

the transmission isnt up to snuff - that's a fact

granted - if you leave it in drive - it's ok most of the time

but it doesn't respond well if you push it - and it has lag when you get on it -

so congrats if you're having fun with the car - and the 8 speed is working well

I'm hoping a software upgrade will fix this issue :)

but let's face it - it's more a luxury car than a sports car

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Check the "Sprint Booster" thread.

yes,

I did check out the thread - and i am looking at all the available options to go with

it looks like the sprint booster will be a part of my overall plan

I'm calling Hyundai to inquire about the supposed " Software update "

of it's not going to happen ( and I will be very :( and

then I will pick up the sprint booster

it was my plan to do both - unless the software " fix " takes care of this.

which it probably won't

Really sorry to hear all this. Just be persistant with your dealer. If you dont get anyhwere with them go the the district manager. Start documenting everything and only take it back to the dealer for work.

My thoughts exactly-

bringing it in to Hyundai tomorow for a diagnostic look see

told the rep that i want it documented EVERY TIME -
I'm not going to get stuck paying for a new transmission

If I leave the car in drive - it seems to be ok

guess i will have to live with the fact that the trans doesn't like to be rushed - so I'm staying out of tiptronic mode for good.

I still plan on getting the Magnaflow exhaust in the spring - if it's available by then -

Car is so quiet - it stuns people.....lol

too quiet for my taste :D
