What is your biggest complaint about the Hyundai Genesis?

This is my second Genesis, the first was a 2009 3.8 and I upgraded to the ultimate model with Tech. wonderful machine driven 12000 miles and no complaints.

I've never had a seat rubbing issue, but I've also never had leather seats before either!
It is bothersome as the car moves differently. No I'm not 500lbs - I'm 270.
Will try to treat the leather with some type of product to see if that makes a difference.

Terrible Car / Forgettable experience

After almost decades of owning premium / luxury cars, I made the regrettable decision to buy a Hyundai. All my friends and family were skeptical. I have spent the past several months working with dealers and HMA Consumer Affairs to address the problems. Every time they tell me they DO NOT see the problems. Is anyone else having these problems? The whole experience has been extremely disappointing.

1. Rattling / grinding sound: This is mostly when driving at lower gears (0-40mph). The rattling becomes faint when the car is in cruise mode.

2. Jerky transmission: the car jumps a gear very often while accelerating and decelerating

3. Squeaking / cranking sound from the rear seat when driving over a rough / bumpy road. Sometimes the noise is so loud, I am worried something may fall off.

4. Loud rumbling noise when starting the car first thing in the morning

5. Vibrations while driving, this got progressively worse and I noticed the passenger seat shaking back and forth.

6. The horizontal defog elements on rear wind screen give a hazy view at night

7. Tires have worn off at less than 30k miles.

8. The cabin lights flicker when switched ON or the door is opened.

9. Cruise control function has failed.

Geez..What a nit picker...you have the most gripes I have ever heard and they mostly sound ridiculous, these are wonderful automobiles as I am on my second Genesis, a 4.6 with tech package and other than some minor tire wear problems is easily the best machine I have ever driven and I have had them all.

Check out Car@Drivers recent article about their 100,000 mile test of a 2009 Genesis 4.6, the longest road test to date just to prove their 100,000 mile drivetrain warranty wasn't a bunch of hooey.

Are you sure your not driving a Yugo??

The Dunlop Tires. I had an Azera before and it had junk tires too. Once I replaced them, it was like a different car!!

I drive a company car, so early changeover is not an option. I trade regularly and am pretty sure that if Hyundai still insists on saving $ on tires, I will change to another car next trade.

It's really sad, because other than this, I have loved my Hyundai - every time. I just can't spend another 30,000 miles listening to droning tires because somebody in Korea decided to save a few bucks. It's the one area they still scream "econocar" in. And you read the complaints everywhere, but we still get whatever rates worst on Tire Rack's list.

Replaced the junk Dunlops about 5k ago with Cooper CS4 Touring. It is like driving a different car. Very quiet on the road and very good handling. The last 3-5k on the Dunlops sounded like I was riding on wooden wagon wheels - I got a screw in one of them and it would not held a plug, so I got rid of them with decent tread on them. It's nice to take a trip and be able to have a conversation now.

I have been very happy with my Azera and my 2010 Genesis except for these tire issues. As I shared earlier, shame on Hyundai for tarnishing their rep by using junk tires - it's the only flaw I have found, but it has been consistent. I have told my dealer that it is the last Hyundai I will buy with poorly rated tires.

I think my biggest complaint would be the lack of DRL's on the 2009-2011
models and the oversight of not giving the earlier Genesis a more rough surface compliant suspension. When you think that most US cars have DRL's it just would have been nice if Hyundai had followed suit, the Lincoln MKZ also does not have DRL's.
It just kind of rubs me the wrong way to hear Hyundai saying for safety the 2012 Genesis now has DRL's , when we know that although it is not a law most cars sold in the US today are equipped with DRL's.
I like my 2010 Genesis but IMO the DRL's and a softer suspension would have been nice. I know changes is what sells cars.

Passenger seat adjustments. I and my wife are not tall people so the driver's seat is always up to the maximum height. Not having ability to adjust height in passenger seat is frustrating, my wife even bought a pillow Would be happy to pay more to have this feature though don't think adding one more control would cost significantly more.
Steering wheel doesn't have a big range of movement.
Would not mind to have touch screen in addition to the knob. Not a complaint, just a wish.
Ability to view tire pressure as one of the menu choices. Well, I haven't gone through the manual yet, may be it is there somewhere.
No complaint in ride, very smooth, powerful, quiet. Sometimes have to fight with my wife, she really like to drive it

300 miles on the car. Didn't notice any issues yet, except for tires.
Features I really miss : blind spot detection (had two occasions I almost hit car in my left blind spot). It's a shame they didn't put it in 2012 model.
Parking sensors are pretty cool- warned me couple times of pedestrians approaching from the side and trying to cross in front of the car(I was looking the other way and didn't see them). Reclining rear seats would be nice (I just loved them in Equis).

Agree on the above. Also, sensors on the sides would be quite helpful as well.
As for blind spot, I configured my side mirrors in such way that I can see all blind spots. Having an option to add entertainment system, like screens in head rests, would be nice in long trips with kids, and we do make those trips a lot.

I agree on the passenger seat, it really makes no sense as the cost would be next to nothing.
You may have a problem with your tilt steering, refer to the threads on the tilt wheel issue. Go to the dealer and check out the range on other Genesis and if you see a difference in yours let the service department know. I had to have the tilt wheel TSB performed on my 2010 4.6 and afterwards turned off the easy exit steering feature. I have seen where some other owners of the 2012 have the tilt wheel issue.

Beautiful car, solid as a rock but it takes far too long for the transmission to shift after selecting another gear. My wife drives a Porsche Cayenne S and has almost as bad a problem. Conversely, the Sonata 2.0T I traded was almost instantaneous. Damn computers!

I have a 2011 3.8 with Tech Package and have a couple electronic glitches. Seems the programming is not completely debugged.

1) If I shut off the car with the radio on, upon restart the radio is playing (fine), but trying to change station with the steering wheel control doesn't work and indicates A/V OFF on the display even though the radio is playing. Volume control on same switch will work fine. Pressing the XM or FM button on center console wakes it up and functions fine.

2) Roughly 50% of time when I try to shut off audio system by depressing volume knob on dash, I get no response. Second time shuts it off. No rhyme or reason why or when it does this. Tried pressing more firmly or for longer duration, but no effect.

Any other experience this on 2011 Tech?

My biggest complaint is the suspension. Very bouncy over bumps, etc. even on the pa turnpike, going over bridges etc. if going around a corner going 75-80, the bounce is such I need to make sure I have a firm grip on the steering wheel.

I have other small minor complaints, nits really, but the suspension is the one that causes me to question if I bought the right car. Perhaps should have bought the v8 as others have mentioned the suspension is better.

No, you just can't just say "FIND PIZZA HUT" and then have it display all the Pizza Huts in a 50 mile radius....we live in Sierra Vista, AZ and Tucson is 85 miles away, so when I am looking for a route to a specific place, it's KLUDGY because it can't anything in town so I have to force it to look at Tucson when I just want it to expand it's search by default....I was trying to find a route to a particular place and it took me almost 15 miles piddling around with the voice commands to get it right. I should have taken my Garmen1300 along with me and will probably do so in the future....

Funny that you should mention that. I just finished a J.D. Power survey on the Genesis nav system and wasn't shy about calling attention to its deficiencies.

I agree completely. If i'm ever the passenger in mine, I make sure to sit in the back, where this car shines for passenger comfort

Better watch that 75 to 80 mph around corners my friend, my 4.6 is solid as a rock but I still am careful on curves living in W. PA.
