389 miles....malfunction light....frustrated

Howdy. New owner here. Bought the car last friday. 2012 3.8 Tech package. BEAUTIFUL car. Wife got a flashing malfunction light last night (then solid) on the way home from work. Took it to dealer this morning. They say it is a bad tranny oil pressure sensor. There is a recall and the part is on back order for a month. They said I could safely drive it until part came in. Light was reset and the mechanic said it will probably come back on. I made the owner of the dealership put a statement on the bottom of my maintenance ticket that I was not responsible for any damage to tranny/engine. I have 2 pretty big road trips coming up. Any qualified Hyundai mechanics wanna chime in and give me your opinion on whether I should keep driving it? Thanks in advance.

Your problem is why for years I have avoided buying any brand of car with a first year engine or transmission. That said there have been plenty of first year engines or trans. that have had no problems, I just like to see a track record even a short one.

I would keep driving it. You have the assurance that any damages are not your responsibility. One faulty sensor does not mean the transmission is bad and at least it was a known problem.

I'm picking up my 2012 3.8 next Monday so I'll ask about the recall on this.

Had same problem with wife's Acura RDX, right down to sensor being back-ordered. And that drive train has been around for a number of years. Usually (not always) sensor failure is the problem in modern cars. Even so, you were wise to cover yourself with dealership
