  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Anyone attach a blind spot mirror to the outside mirrors? Any recommendations? Thanks.

Recently in Tampa, FL I rented a Saab Turbo that had a nicely integreted blind spot mirrors on their mirrors.

I wish Genesis would do the same - I hate that round blind spot mirror look.:(

I've had them on for a few weeks now--purchased at my local auto supply for a couple bucks each. No regrets -- they really add great visibility.

There are some smaller mirrors that I have used on my last 3 cars (not on Gennie yet) that I mounted along the bottom of the mirrors. They are slanted in one direction (outwards) and really show a passing car well. They are smaller than the round mirrors above. I bought mine off a rack at the car wash.

I always install my retangular blind spot mirrors in the lower "inside" corner of the car mirror. I've been doing this for twenty years.

As for the Saab Turbo mirrors with the integreted blind spot mirrors built in, the last two Renault Laguna's I've leased in France had driver side mirrors that had this type of blind spot mirror built in. The driver side mirror "looks" like a regular outside mirror, and is flat like a regular outside mirror, however the outer third (or quarter) of the mirror is such, that you see in the blind spot. There is a vertical dotted line printed in the mirror, to remind you that to the left of the dotted line, what you see is in the blind spot.

I wish cars sold in the US had this feature, however it is my understanding that this type of mirror is not legal here. (Don't know if your rented Saab had this type of mirror or not).

I'm similar to mike813. Got them at Advance Auto Parts for a few bucks. I use the one's that you can adjust once mounted. They are on all our auto's including the kids!

(bump) any more recent thoughts on best size and placement of blind spot mirrors? happy motoring -

Good advice, been doing that since I started driving <insert big number> years ago.

I thought this was common knowledge.
Apparently not - it's a bit disconcerting at first to look in your side mirror and not see the side of your car. I stuck a couple of the little round convex mirrors in the upper left/right corners of my side mirrors, so I can see the 'blind spot' activity and also the side of my car. Works for me...

I'm with the 'Adjust your mirrors properly' brigade.
I know what the side of my car looks like and I have no need to view it while I'm driving just to make sure it is still there :D
At our advanced Driving School, we tell students to sit normally in their seat and adjust the side mirrors to just pick up the lane markings on the road in the bottom inside corner. That way you should have no blind spots. The interior mirror shows you what is directly behind, so there is no need to duplicate that view with the side mirrors.
Try it, you'll like it!:).

Yep. Been doing it for years, though a quick glance never hurts too. Especially on a 3 lane road when you want to move to the middle lane from the left lane.

I have the small round ones shown in Mike813's pix on my Infiniti. They are great and we have them placed on the outside bottom side.

Now my wife is begging me to put them on our new 2012 Genesis, too. It's a no brainer and really gives piece of mind.

Seems like everybody here is doing the right thing. I personally prefer the convex mirror approach but adjusting the mirrors properly does the job too. This is what I do if I pick up a rental car. The scary part is all the other drivers who don't even think about such important details to their driving...
Hope others can learn a few good tips from this thread. Thanks for starting it.

I've used the round, adjustable, convex mirrors on every car I've owned for the last 20 years and it's no different with the Genesis I just bought. They only cost a couple of bucks and have saved my a** at least a couple of time.
I have a big 2500 Suburban and to me they are a necessity. Even have them on my wife's Mustang GT. Drivers side only though, most cars have the distorted mirror glass on the passenger side mirror......that's my 2 cents worth.

Good idea. The mirrors are small (it's a car I know) so I may look into this. My friend's 2015 Sonota has this on the drivers side...it come this way from factory...looks nice and streamlined to fit in corner of the rectangle-shaped side mirror.

I don't like the round stick-on mirrors, so here's what I've got. They are on a little gimble, so you can aim them as you like, without moving the larger mirror.
