  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

been combing the nets and havent found anything relevent, just wondering if anyone has had the hangers to do 6speed manual swap from the 3.8 coupe onto the 3.8 sedan. OFFTOPIC-does poweraxel reflash 3.8 sedans

"Has had the hangers"? Is that some kind of mental disease? I think it must be.

BTW, the 3.8 Coupe uses a ZF transmission (like the 4.6) and the 3.8 Sedan uses an Aisin tranmsmission (pre-2012).

i guess "hangers" is a midwest term, we say hangers instead of "balls" haha. i suppose ill have to be the first to try, gonna pick up a 6 speed manual from a 3.8 coupe and just see how it goes, im gonna pull the harness, ecu, and pedal assy as well, so ill have everything ill need, might take a few other things from the car.

Exactly as I suspected. Mental Disease. You could buy a lot of lap dances for the money you are throwing down the drain for that mod, and I doubt it will work properly because of the ECU, etc.

hey man, i bought this car with every intention of a manual swap, ive done it on a few of my bmws and my sc400, if they sold a genesis sedan with a manual id own it, but they dont, so ive got to do it on my own. my local salvage yard has a gen coupe, 3.8 premium 6 speed manual that was a write off, so ill be starting a build thread soon.

I don't think that is going to be an issue. The chances of him getting it to even run are slim using the sedan ECU, etc. I guess when you are 20 years old, you have to learn the hard way.

Yea, I can see that becoming an issue, but My genesis isn't a daily, and I paid 12k under book for it. I have found forums helpful for ambitious projects like this in the past, like clublexus and e46fanatics to name a couple, but it's not the case here, I think it's Becuase a different type of consumer is buying the genesis sedan, and mark_888 has every right to be the skeptic here, but I have every right to prove him wrong. The Lexus SC400 was also automatic only, and I put a supra r154 in it and daily drove it with the factory ecu.

They don't make a manual gen sedan, but maybe if enough Homemade 6speed manual swaps happen Hyundai will realize there is a market for them.

F1 race cars don't even have manual transmissions any more, they have paddle shifters like the 5.0 R-Spec.

You may new right Mark, but let's not discourage the younger members around here :)

Something tells me we need lap dances more at our age than his.

And yet I'd still rather have a manual. Don't even think about trying to compare the 5.0 rspec to an f1 trans. These things can't hold a gear, and there's no 3rd pedal. I had an 2005 m3 ZCP with smg, and that's more like it, the Hyundai trans with paddle shifter is a joke.

I say go for it. If you have the money and the skillset to do it, by all means have at it. For people that say that you are wasting your money, the same could be said for buying wheels, tint, etc for the car. You never get your money back from what you put into a car.

Good luck, and post pictures if you go through with it.

So.... 5 years later here, anything come of this? I mean, aside from someone presenting a different idea and being treated like shit by an "old timer" forum bully?

OP hasn't logged in since 2011 and bet her doesn't even have the genesis anymore. And no, no one has swapped a manual transmission in to a sedan yet that I know of. While in the process of swapping a 5.0 into a coupe Snoopy Panda discovered that both the coupe and sedan front cross members are identical. This means if it has been swapped into a coupe, theoretically it will not be an issue in the sedan. And we all know many different engines have been transplanted into the coupe. Only be a matter of time before it does happen.

Great points. I can obviously see the differences in how much of an "enthusiast" type car(and corresponding forum style/support), the coupe is compared to the sedan. I also know EVERY platform has it's enthusiast base that likes to tinker. I can see a big following for the idea of a V8 coupe, so it's nice to know that someone has dabbled in that enough to see similarities. I'd think the ECU side of things is where the biggest hurdle would be. That and finding/having made, the right flywheel for this to work.

I was just trying to save him from some grief. My guess is that he tried it, and it was a complete disaster, so he didn't post about it.

Besides, people with hangers like that don't care what I or others think about them.
