  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I own a 2009 V6 Genesis sedan. Often my key fob will not function and it will be necessary for me to use the embedded key to open the door and insert the fob into the dashboard slot to start the car.

After some time elapses, the "brain" appears to wake up and the fob functions perfectly. I have this problem with both fobs. I have no 'weak battery' indication on the dashboard and only have 16k miles on the car so the fobs have not had much use to wear down the batteries.

Does anybody know of a software fix or other solution for the proximity key fob problem?

I had problems with one of mine a few months ago.

Change the battery and the problem will go away.

When the fob gets warm it works good, but when cold, it wont

Thanks for the responses. I checked the voltage and the batteries seem OK. If the fobs work once they are "warm", then I suspect there is a more fundamental problem here...maybe software. What do you think?

i guess i should have been more specific, it's usually the key fob batteries. They are very easy to replace. I would start there. battery is CR2032.

The manual states that the circuit in the fob can have an issue if exposed to moisture or static electricity. If that means anything to you...

I just started having this problem and I don't think it's the key fob battery. I keep them inside the house so don't think they are cold or damp. The car is currently at the dealer to "diagnose" the rear camera not working all the time so I mentione this problem but I don't hold out much hope of them finding anything since it's not doing it right now and they always want me to 'bring it in when it's doing it". I lucked out that whent he rear camera did it this time, I got to the dealer and they saw it for themselves. Of course when he opened the trunk to look at the connection there, it started working again. I dropped it off again yesterday so they could run down the whole wire loom that runs back and check all the connections.

If you find out something about this non functioning fob thing, please let us know what they find so I can have my dealer look at that. I'll do the same if they find something.

I had the same problem, and MY BATTERIES WERE ALSO DEEMED OK, but the problem went away when replaced. Works from far away, now, too, like new.
