  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've tried googling what changed in 2012 but haven't found the exact answers I'm looking for.

Can somebody tell me what changed on the 2012 Genesis sedan from 2011? I know the mirrors fold in now and the front bumper is slightly different...anything else?

Edit: Found my answer...sorry.

Exterior:
- New grille on the front
- Bolder front end
- Headlights are LED
- Taillights are tweaked
- Power-folding side mirrors

Performance:
- New engine
- R-Spec 5.0L v8 with 429hp
- Slightly better fuel mileage

The 3.8L engine increased in horsepower from about 295 to 333. This was mostly accomplished by using Gasoline Direct Injection (goggle it if you don't know what this is).

The R-Spec engine was bored out from 4.6L to 5.0L and also added gasoline direct injection for significant HP increase.

All 2012 models now use a Hyundai designed and built 8-Speed transmission. Previously, they all used a 6-Speed (3.8 made by Aisin, and 4.6 made by ZF).

As a result of transmission and engine changes, the 3.8L MPG increased by 2 for highway and 1 for city driving. Smaller increases also for the 4.6L (5.0 is new for 2012).

Thanks, I appreciate further clarification.

I modified my post slightly to change "direct fuel injection" to "gasoline direct injection" (the official name that Hyundai uses). GDI is different than regular fuel injection.

I don't know when they changed the screen in the instrument panel. My 2011 has a basic monochrome display while the 2012 I saw at the dealership has a color display with much more animated graphics. Oddly though the color display is covered in my 2011 owners manual so I'm not sure when that change occurred. I don't know of a functionality change. It seems to be just the display graphics though I must admit the new ones look really cool.

Might be that some 2011 models sold in Korea, etc have the color displays as described in your owners guide..

Other changes (from my 2009 at least - not sure about 2011) are:

  1. The "puddle" lights on the mirrors illuminate as you approach the car at night.
  2. The headlights stay on for about 20 seconds after you turn off the engine.
  3. Heated rear seats on the Premium & Tech packages.
  4. Lane Departure Warning with Tech Package.
  5. Heated Steering wheel - Oh sorry, Canada only:D

FWIW, feature 2 was introduced in MY 2010.

What is the difference on the front bumper, side skirt and the rear bumper?
