  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Transmission damage - Beware

Its been nearly three weeks since the last post...Still no invoice from the dealer?
FWIW, I have a $7,000 full billet transmission in my diesel truck...It's good for over 1,000 RWHP, 1,600 RWTQ.

I can't imagine under what circumstances that an insurance company would not cover damage due to an accident, even if driver is negligent (not say that is the case here).

Where there is an exclusion for "Collision with a roadbed". Luckily Mercury does have this exclusion.

I doubt many insurance companies have that exclusion, unless the car has been modified in some way, or the car is being driven off-road.

I've only known of a few that do. Much more common to have off road exclusions.

I guess I don't really know, since I have been insured by State Farm since age 16. Every time I try an online price quote from another "discount" insurance company (including the lizard), they quote me a much higher price than I currently pay.

I can see why Hyundai won't replace my transmission. I can vouch fro the anti-lock brakes, however. Last night on our way to a Christmas dinner I was preoccupied with the lag in the transmission and assorted other problems, when the car in front of me made a panic stop. I stood on the brakes and the car shuddered to a stop, about a foot away from the other car. I have almost quit driving this POS and would get rid of it except the wife likes it. Sorry car, with little support.

In the morning I head for the dealer with what sounds to me like a bad wheel bearing. Just another day with Consumer Reports car of the year(I cancelled that magazine).

Are you complaining about your brakes, Transmission or inattentive driving? Or maybe tailgating.

Sounds like the Genesis saved your Ass!

Last week the dealership finished installing the new transmission. I returned the rental car and picked up my car.

There was a lot of discussion regarding the repair estimate so I thought I would supply the final result. Parts $13,827.04. Labor $2320. Tax $1,175.30 for a total of $17,322.34. I paid the first thousand (my deductible) plus the cost of the rental car. I did not purchase rental car coverage because I never considered the possibility I would be without my car for this long. Now I know better.

I am surprised your dealer would not provide a loaner for such an expensive repair (at least a used car, even if not a Genesis). You probably should have told them you will take it another dealer if they refused you a loaner. They made at least $5K profit on the repair.

You're undoubtedly right Mark. At the time I had no idea it would drag on this long. I agreed to the work thinking I could take the bus to work and occasionally borrow my wife's car. But as things dragged on and on I finally had to rent a car. By then the transmission had been ordered, the insurance company was involved etc, etc.

If I were you, I'd stop reading this board. Someone posts about a bad wheel bearing and suddenly you have something that sounds like a bad wheel bearing. Writers complain about the transmission and ..... Perhaps you should start reading the raredisease.org blog....

Another case of hypocardria

Just saying that at least the brakes on the car work, even if there are a host of other problems, mostly centered around the transmission. Also to remind new readers that this car isn't the 'second coming' as most on here seem to think.

Thank God you're not me.

The myriad of things which can go wrong with an automobile are a lot harder to fix in reality than they are in dreams.
