Crunching noise when drivers seat moves

My drivers seat sounds like there are broken ball bearings in the track when it moves backwards or forwards for that matter. Mostly towards the last 1/3 of travel back. The dealer looked into this today and spent 3hrs trying to fix it but the diagnosis was the need to change the entire sub assembly. Hyundai accepted to warranty the parts but get this, $2,500 is what it cost for the part. Is this just bad luck or have others had this same problem.
 
I get that too but only when I'm leaning forward or pushing back on the seat when easy access feature is running. Sounds like "cruching" or "scratching" sound. $2500??? they accepted it as warranty work so you dont have to pay a dime right?

Nope, they did not even question it and that is why I though maybe it was a known problem. My car smelled like WD40 or some kinda loose-nut when I picked it up yesterday obviously from there failed repair attempt.

In hindsight when the car was new, one of my headlamps (HID) was not properly sealed from the factory which caused it to fog up all the time. This took no less three failed repair trips to the dealer before Hyundai Canada finally agreed to replace the defective unit.

Looks like they are improving. No complaints about the car in general and would buy another in a heartbeat. :D
 
My late '09 Accord had a similar problem. Known issue was that ball bearings in the seat track are not metal and can go flat. There was no fix in the pipeline. They told me to run seat front to rear multiple times and that helps round them and smoothes them out. Keep in mind too that few orientals weigh as much as fat Americans, so the plastic, or other material, is more likely to deform here.

I am not a fat American! Rather a plump Canadian. :D Then again 200lbs on a bad day is not exactly all that heavy is it?
 
Maybe one of your kids (or grand kids) poured cereal under the seat? Sorry, I couldn't resist.:)

Actually, I was thinking maybe the hamsters got loose and were running around under the seat.

Good to hear the dealer fixed it under warranty, but it's hard to believe just a part of the seat could cost $2,500 :eek:

I sure hope those type of things don't break after warranty...:rolleyes:

I had the exact same problem with my 2009 4.6. It got so bad, that the seat would sometimes stop midway in the movement. Dealer first sprayed lubricant under the seat, but the grinding would come back after a few days. Dealer changed it out under warranty.

OK, get this!!!!!!
My 2010 SHO started doing the very same thing. Sprayed lube under the seat, and again it only lasted a few days. Took it to Ford, and they also changed the entire seat frame.

Its not only the Genesis that has this problem. :eek:
 
My 2009 4.6 had the same grinding drivers seat issue and the dealer first lubricated the seat tracks, which only made a marginal difference. I took it back to the dealer a couple weeks later with the same issue and they replaced the entire seat sub-assembly under warranty.

Oddly enough, while driving a loaner 2011 4.6 w/Tech Genesis last week, while having more warranty repair work done on my 09, I noticed their 2011 loaner had the same problem with the seat (I didn't tell them).

The 2011 was a little smoother ride than my 09 and the steering while at low speed took less effort as well. Can't wait to drive the 2012!
 
Mine only does it when you transition from pre-setting 1 (wife) to 2 (me). Once there it doesn't do it all. Dealer didn't have a clue last visit, only said to monitor it but from what I see hear they have some issues. Oh BTW, the wife is only 105lbs. and drives it 90% of the time.
 
Yup - my 2011 3.8 does it, too. Had it looked at once by dealer who tried lubricating, then told me they would need more time to investigate. I have lived with it for over a year now . . . I wish they would follow this message board and do the correct repair the first (or second time, at least) instead of re-inventing the wheel! - frustrating -

I see I am not alone!!! Now I know why there were no arguments to warranty and replace the sub assembly. They will be getting my part on Wednesday for installation on Thursday.
 
My 09 had the same problem. They found out that the seat tracks were not parallel and had to adjust them. The mechanic found this out on his own after messing with it all day. After they did that it never came back. My 2012 is a quiet with no issues
 
My seat tracks on the drivrs seat were replaced January 30, 2012. Had to re-set the seat memory as it defaulted to off when the mechanic unplugged it for service.

Have the same issues.12 r spec. Makes that noise only when seat moves back when shutting off the car.... Its super annoying and ghetto sounding. :mad:
 
Had the same problem in my 2009 and ended up with a new seat mechanism under warranty.
