I've reached 32K with the Dunlops on my 4.6 Genesis Sedan and it's now time to replace them.

These seem to be the 2 tires that are most recommended on this forum and on Tirerack.com.

Grand Touring - Bridgestone

Ultra High Performance - Continental

Which one do you think is the best tire overall and why?

The Continental is better for areas that have a snow every winter. Otherwise the two tires are about equal. The Bridgestone may be somewhat quieter. I have the Serenity on my Genesis and plan on anonther set. I am going to try the Continentals on my E500 the next time it needs tires.

They are both good tires, but don't limit yourself to just the 2 different tires. Reach out on tirerack and find the one's for you. Read reviews, surveys, and rankings for each performance catagory and find that perfect tire for your style of driving.

I just bit the bullet and ordered the Continentals from Tirerack after talking to the sales agent and considering all of the positive reviews. It was really tough deciding between the two tires. Ultimately I looked at this way, I haven't had any issues with my OEM Dunlops which are considered "ultra high performance" so I decided to stay within the same classification; hence the Continentals. I'm thinking the Grand Touring classification of the Serenitys may not be the best choice for me since I do like to really DRIVE my Genny!

Overall, I know both tires are better and quieter than my Dunlops and I think they are pretty quiet.

either was a good choice. FYI the Serenity in W rating for perfromance handles the same as the Continental. Both are really good in rain.

DWS has a better looking sidewall vs. the Serenity (isn't that a woman's bladder control pad?) Tread are very similar

If both tires handle the same, why is one classified as Grand Touring and the other Ultra High Performance? To me, that makes things more confusing. Why not give them the same classification?

I can't comment on the Bridgestones but I can say that I was very pleasantly surprised when I replaced the OEM Dunlops with Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires a few months ago. Not only were the Contis much better in the Chicago snow, they had a much smoother, softer ride on rough roads.

The Dunflops are truly terrible tires, ranking either last or next to last in almost every category in the TireRack ratings. The reviews for the Contis, on the other hand, are either first or second in almost every category.

In test using the same car model the two tires are very close in slalom times, lateral g's, etc. DWS stops a little sooner. You can't always go by what a manufacturer calls there tire, its all about marketing.

When the tires are tested on the same model of car they both have similar slalom times, lateral g's etc. The DWS does stop a little sooner. You can't always go by what the tire manufacturers call their tires, its all about marketing.

Yep, and in most categories ranked dead last. I can't beleive Goodyear would even make such a horrible tire. I only got 18k miles on the OE set. My Serenity tires already have 30,000 miles and at least anothewr 15k in them.

I spoke with our engineers on your behalf to answer your question; the classifications are not necessarily an industry standard, but rather a classification given by each company to differentiate the tires from each other within a given brand, such as Continental.

A good rule of thumb is to just see what you primarily use the tire for (snow, touring, etc), and look at the description of each tire to match your needs.

Using tirerack.com to guide your decision via ratings is a great way to go, and of course, we're happy you chose us!

I had to buy a set of Blizzaks because the Dunlops are so bad in the snow. I plan to get through this summer with the Dunlops and then dump them when I switch back to the Blizzaks in December. So next spring I will be putting a new set on. Because I have the Blizzaks for winter is there an advantage to buying the Conti DW tires instead of the DWS for spring-summer-fall?

Depends on your driving style, and what you want out of a tire. I like a nice sticky tire that behaves well in the wet and dry. I prefer a summer tire also. I've found I really like the Sumitomo HTR Z III especially for the price, but I'm actually considering the Conti DW for my next set.
