  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Rebadge story

The other night, around 8 pm, I was in the parking lot of our local Wal Mart, parked out in the back 40 under a light. A couple came running up to me after they jumped out of a BMW and asked me how I liked my "Bently" as they were looking to buy one (A Bently, not MY "Bently"). Anyways, I pointed out to them that it was a Genesis and NOT a Bently, and they were VERY impressed and loved the lighting package (prem/tech), so after a few minutes, after I told them about the car and price, they said they were going to go to the local dealer and test drive a Genesis. Sans wings, of course.

Yesterday I went with my wife to our local Volvo dealer to look at an XC60 for her. We took a test drive and when we pulled back into the lot the salesman said "just park it there next to the Bentley." I've had lots of Bentley comments, but coming from a car salesman I thought it was a real hoot.

What was the salesman's reaction when you corrected him:)

XC60 is a wonderful vehicle. My wife now has about 8,000 miles on a 2011 T6 AWD Platinum. It's been flawless, and she will try to drive it forever.

So an XC60 can exist peacefully in a garage with a Genesis (or a Bentley, for that matter)?

Yes. And to make extra sure they would, they're both black.
Fortunately, my wife is not fond of black cars - she prefers silver. Keeping two black cars looking good is not something I would want to contemplate..;)

I got all my badges on but I have not been able to find a sewing shop to embroider my new trunk carpet with "GENESIS" due to the rubber backing. I guess I will have to be satisfied with a plain black nylon carpet.

A little info about the trunk badge change. I cut the Hyundai badge off the trunk with dental floss, which was pretty easy. The tough part was getting all the tape off afterwards. I found that using an old credit card and scraping at the old tape did the trick. The final residue came off with "GooGone". I hope this info will help.:)

A better all-purpose solvent is Oil-Flo (http://www.titanlabs.net/oilflo.htm). I've used it for years for all kinds of stuff - adhesives, dried paint, whatever - and it works great. It can even be used to remove solar film from windows, which is a difficult chore, but Oil-Flo takes it right off.

Hmmm. Not sure I would use something on my car surface that removes dried paint.

I've used it on lots of cars for removing everything from bugs to road tar to emblem adhesive to paint overspray with no damage to the surface at all. I tried it on the proverbial "inconspicuous area" first and verified that no damage resulted. I also use it around the house for all kinds of stuff - it really works. And no, I have to connection with the company that makes it. I originally got it to remove solar film, which is very hard to get off, and it works great for that.

I wasn't suggesting you had any connection with the company. GooGone makes an "Extreme" version that sounds similar, but I would not use either one on my car unless I absolutely had to. You may be removing part of the clear coat without even noticing it.

I was able to remove the residue glue from my re-badging with regular GooGone, so I would stick to the philosophy of using the least-powerful chemical to get the job done. And after the GooGone, I washed the area with a good detergent to make sure all the GooGone was gone (sorry) before re-applying the new emblem.

Hey Guys...

I ordered a set of winged wheel caps for my 2012 Genesis. The Ebay seller was quick and prompt with delivery. However 1 of the caps was damaged (chipped cracked paint). Looks like it got hit or something fell on it. My question is do you think that the seller will replace the 1 damaged wheel cap, or will this become an issue of they are sold in sets of 4? I was really psyched to put these on and am hoping the seller comes through. Thoughts??

Ask the seller for his thoughts. '-)

Are these the kind with adhesive backers?

Thanks for the advice. I did contact the seller and am waiting on a return email or response. No, these are the caps that fit the 18"wheels. They are identical to the caps they replace, except for the winged emblem. They were kind of pricey at $120 for plastic wheel caps. But that was a choice I can live with. I was just curious to see if anyone had a similar experience, and/or if they would replace just the one damaged cap?

So, who is the seller?

So, who is the seller?

Ha...I want to give the merchant a chance to respond before I potentially damage his feedback rating or future potential sales. I own my own business and would hate to not have an opportunity to build customer faith and loyalty. I will post the vendor as soon as there is some resolution one way or the other. ... either to give some great reviews or blast the vendor for bad customer service and selling damaged goods...-:)

I went to the local dealer, where I purchased my car an inquired about purchasing a set (7 total) and received a price of 799.00 installed. I almost passed out. I ask, "have you fell and hit your head?" The New Car manager gave me a story that they had to take a heat gun and remove the centers and it averaged 1.5 hrs of labor per wheel and etc. It really hurts a Dealers credibility to stand there and lie to a customer's face. Especially the new car manager. I'm sure the staff takes that to mean they can say "whatever it takes" to close the deal. What a shame to have such a wonderful product and resort to tactic like that. "Live and Learn."
I had already researched the badges and knew that for about a hundred bucks I could get them from Korea, so I patiently listened and then ask him why he was so misinformed. I love the look when they know they've been caught lying about something they didn't have to lie about.
I was just trying to patronize my local dealer, very well expecting to pay somewhat of a premium to do business with them. Wish I had ask them prior to the purchase, I would have driven to an honest dealer. I sold cars for several years and never found a need to lie about anything. I was lied to by customers all of the time, but that's another story.
Also, the Dealer's service Department approached me and ask if I wanted to have the "RECALL" done while I was there. She stated it was a computer upgrade. I let then do it but haven't been able to tell a difference. Anybody heard of this on a 2012?
