  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello!

I ordered a new 5.0 R-Spec... Black!
Can't wait to have it... it's on the boat from Korea apparently...

The wait is killing me... please send me pics and comments about how you like your 2012 Genesis to help me wait.

Does anybody know why in the US the steering wheel is all leather and in Canada (where I am), the top is in that fake black wood?

Also, the dealer is offering me to get a paint protector because it's black... Good thing or gimmick?

Thanks!!

Congrats! My '12 4.6 has wood wheel....

I doubt the paint protector is going to do anything for you. Its black - its always going to be dirty.

Congrats. Skip anything the dealer tries to sell you. It can always be bought in the secondary market for far less money.

The USA 2012 R-Spec sedan does not have "wood-grain" steering wheel (which is plastic with wood grain, not real wood). Why? Becasue HMA decided they wanted all leather on the R-Spec. Hyundai Canada decided otherwise.

I'd say that "protection" is useless. If anything, they might do more harm than good.

If you want a long read on my R Spec... check out this thread: http://www.genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showthread.php?t=9108

There's a part on there where I discuss the dealer-installed stuff, and paint prep. Might be worth a look.

Here are some pictures of my car, which is your car's twin: ALBUM

FYI, bringing my car in after work to get a makeover/detail. There was a cancelled appointment, so I now get in over 2 months earlier than scheduled! Looking forward to getting my car back on Sunday:)

Purchase a soft car cover. I use mine even in the garage. The dust from the in house vaccum creates lots of dust and it really shows on the black paint. The car cover has saved me many car washes . Also, I have two cars and I only drive the Genny when it is dry outside. When I do wash the car I fill a bucket with cold water and McQuires car wash solution and hid to the carwash. I apply the soap from the carwash, then hand wash using the bucket of solution and using several different wash cloths keeping them clean and free of dirt at all times. Then I use the carwash to rinse and once that is complete I air dry with a high speed run. Once home and in the garage I use McQuires Gold show spray wax to remove any water spots and walla its clean and shiny and scotch free. Your only mistake is buying a black car, so make sure you wash with care.

The California duster does basically the same for me. And no swirl marks (as yet) - I was careful to protect the paint BEFORE I even drove the car, though ;)

If you're interested, here's what's being done:

*Hand wash using only pH neutral soaps and proper wash media.
*Thoroughly clean doorjambs. Includes the trunk, hood and gas doors.
*Clean and dress wheel wells.
*Carefully clean wheels using special tools and chemicals specifically *designed for the safe removal of brake dust, dirt, and grime from even the *most delicate of wheel finishes.
*Clean and dress tires to your taste in gloss.
*Remove all road tar and tree sap.
*Clay all painted surfaces and glass to remove bonded surface contaminants.
*Measure your vehicles paint thickness with an electric paint thickness gauge to ensure safe levels of paint correction can be performed.
*Ferrous and non-ferrous metal panels only.
*Perform a two-stage machine polish to remove most swirls, water spots, and light scratches.
Note: some serious defects may still remain and will either require services found in the Ultimate Package, or may be too deep for safe removal

*Apply a long lasting and durable synthetic sealant or natural wax, depending on your preference.
*Clean all glass surfaces to a streak-free shine.
*Polish metal and chrome trim.

Service takes approximately 8-11 hours

Scott - where do I go and how much will I pay? I have the Klasse All-in-One and the Sealant unopened, waiting for me, but I can't find the time.

Seriously, I'd appreciate a referral.

I wish my cali duster didn't leave some haze type marks that I would think are scratches but comes right out. Do you have this issue too with the black paint? I have the duster with the plastic handle. Not sure if this makes a difference or not. I stopped using it for months and only used it a few times since I was afraid it would leave scratches everywhere.

It's a new duster, so it has a little bit of wax at 1st, but this goes away the more you use it.

I'm doing the middle package for $500. The base is $300, and don't bother with the $800 one.....you won't need it for such a new vehicle. He also advised against the permanant paint protection, as it doesn't give the shine a wax will, but for people who hate waxing, it's probably a good solution. I'm sure I'll have this done on my wifes Sonata.

See a TON of his work and articles here:
