  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The ZF fluid for the 6 speed on the 4.6L V8 is Shell M-1375.4. I just bot a BMW with the same tranny, so I found a reliable source : $22.95 a qt.

My plan is to open the drain hole and dump out as much fluid that will come out of that hole. @ 60k miles. Then I will measure the amount of fluid that comes out and refill the exact amount into the fill hole using a fluid pump.
Then I will drive the car and not worry about it...you listening ctrcbob? If you want to see the entire pan drop and refill (the proper way). Then I suggest you watch this, not the same tranny but the procedure is the same:

Good call. I've read a lot of horror stories about the "lifetime" BMW fluid. I plan on doing this with my 8-speed at 50k intervals as well.

There is fluid still in the torque converter even if you drop the pan. I think if you just let out some fluid and refill several times. It will not only be easier and cheaper than dropping the whole pan, but it will also circumvent the worry about the lifetime fill as well. At a certain point you're gonna have to drop the pan, but to be honest, I wont be the owner by then. Hopefully I'll be driving Genesis chapter III.

Yep - the only way one can exchange all of the fluid in most any auto trans is to use a machine. That process is still debatable across many mechanics as to whether or not it causes more harm than good.

If the fluid that gravity drains is swapped out every 50K or so, should stay ahead of the game by replenishing a good amount of new fluid.

To my knowledge, BMW places a yellow sticker on each transmission that specifies the proper transmission fluid. As Hyundai is using a ZF design in the 6 speed and maybe in the 8 speed, I wonder if there is a similar sticker on our transmissions?

Have not seen any sticker on the Genesis, but the fluid spec is on the back of the owners manual. The 8 speed is built in house. Previously the 4.6L V8 was a ZF sourced part, the 3.8L V6 was sourced from Aisin.

The 8 speed fluid in the '12 is completely different from the '09 - '11 transmission fluid.

Also, the automatic transmission synthetic fluid for the 09-11 are different between V8 (ZF) and V6 (Aisin).
