Finally got around to installing the update. It's not difficult - just pay close attention to the instructions.
One point is unclear - one of the steps tells you to press the Reset button and then the Power button. But it does not specify where the Reset button is - turns out it is a small opening in the round gadget to the right of the CD/DVD player, where the blue light glows when a disc is inserted. You unbend a paper clip (or whatever) and poke it in the hole to reset the system.
The entire process takes about 90 minutes, and then when it's finished it displays the device code for the nav. You go to mapnsoft.com and input the device code, your
VIN, and the "serial number" (which is nowhere to be found). I called mapnsoft and they said just enter 12345 for the SN, which seems to work. Then you take the authentication code that mapnsoft provides in response to your inputs and enter it in the nav through the screen that is displayed.
This is very much like installing any software, which, being a software developer, I am quite accustomed to doing. If Hyundai will only allow 1/2 hour for this process I can see why dealers are not too enthusiastic about installing map upgrades. True, a lot of the time is taken by the actual file transfer process, but the ancillary stuff (going to mapnsoft to get the auth code, etc) can easily total more than 30 minutes.
