If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

It sucks, but in California we have to have front and back license plates. The front bumper already has that assembly attatched, and it's screwed on so I can't just try to roll without it.

I guess my problem is that I found the perfect frame for the back plate, but it's not possible to get another one at this time for the front. More don't seem to exist anywhere. I don't know what I should put on the front plate. Should I just get a plain chrome one? Or will it look weird if they don't match? I know this is a real minor thing, but I can't decide what to do. I could also just not get the single one and buy two matching ones that arent exactly what I want. What do you guys think?

What does the “perfect “ frame look like? Can’t help you if we don’t know what you’re looking for.

I live in SoCal too....and never had a problem with my license plate missing on the front....and i am not intending to put it on my new Genny...if at worst i get stopped, i was thinking on getting the license plate where it folds in and out automatically...no drills! just goes under the front bumper!

Oh and as for color specification, if you like chrome go for it since the genny has chrome parts around won't look too bad....if you have an all blacked out genny then i suggest a black license frame...but of course this is just my taste...everyone has their own ;)

So your car didn't come with the assembly already drilled into the front bumper? Mine did, and it looks stupid already. If I take it off, i'd have to go to a body shop to get the holes repaired. But if I leave it on with no plate, then it looks dumb with a big silver piece of plastic sticking out.

I was afraid to post the exact frame I wanted because i didn't want anyone else to buy it first lol! But I guess it doesn't matter. It's kinda over-priced anyways and if someone else takes it I guess it wasn't meant to be. Here is a link to what I want.

Ive searched the internet and failed to find another one to get a matching set. So if I buy this, the front one will have to be different. Do you guys think it would look weird if they dont match? Since this one isn't fully chrome, should I go with a black one on the front? Or get chrome? I can't make up my mind

This is what I use on my car:

Got mine on Amazon for a decent price:

Dealer drilled the holes on my R-spec during PDI even though I told them not to. Two days later I had a check to the body shop of my choice to repair / fill and paint the holes.

Cost them $120 IIRC.

Since 01 Jan 2009 here in AZ, we cannot install frames that obscure the word "Arizona" on the plates. $135 fine + costs. It will be up to officers to determine whether "Arizona" is clearly visible. Sanders said most violations would be obvious. Drivers with out-of-state plates are exempt from the law.

Your state has a similar law.

http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d03/vc5201.htm

..."The installation of a license plate security cover is not a violation of this subdivision if the device does not obstruct or impair the recognition of the license plate information, including, but not limited to, the issuing state, license plate number, and registration tabs, and the cover is limited to the area directly over the top of the registration tabs. No portion of a license plate security cover shall rest over the license plate number.

(g) A casing, shield, frame, border, product, or other device that obstructs or impairs the reading or recognition of a license plate by an electronic device operated by state or local law enforcement, an electronic device operated in connection with a toll road, high-occupancy toll lane, toll bridge, or other toll facility, or a remote emission sensing device, as specified in Sections 44081 and 44081.6 of the Health and Safety Code, shall not be installed on, or affixed to, a vehicle..."

So while I suppose, like here, it's seldom enforced, an officer in a bad mood might issue a citation anyways as part of another stop, or might just figure he needs to issue a ticket...LoL....

SO while I don't need a front plate (nice), I have eschewed the use of a rear frame just on general purposes...I suppose I'll get one IF I, like you, can find one that fits my desire and complies with state law..... :D

Having lived 26 years in So Cal, I knew that you where supposed to have front and back plates, but I rarely saw them on high end or sports cars,

They were conspicuously absent on Porches, Vetttes, any exotic cars and honken big tricked out SUVs. Most owners kept them in the car so they could tell the officer that they "just were in the process of putting them on."

As I understood it, you could not be stopped for no front plate, but it could be added to a ticket for some other reason.

Yeah it didn't as my genny arrived 2 days ago...i guess they didn't have time to drill?

But you can always put these on in the holes:

I had this on my previous car and it looked good! blended it perfectly!!
