  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello all, I have been making like a hole in the forums here for quite some time as a guest and have finally joined. Come first of 2013 I am going to be in the market to replace my 1998 Taurus with a 2010 4.6 Genesis

I have set my sights on a 2010 4.6 Genesis with the tech package. "fully loaded" What I am interested in is; are there any obvious things that I should look for and or avoid in my search for a used 2010 4.6?

Is there anything that I should ask or look for in particular? Are all 2010 4.6 equal; or are there some mid year changes that really should not be missed?

I thank you all in advance for any and all advice; and I apologize if I am repeating a previous post as I was unable to locate it prior to posting this. If a thread already exists please point me in that direction and close this one.

Thank you.

The 2010's remain the same through the entire production year, your 4.6 will have all the options available. Floor mats, mud guards, wheel locks and such might not be in/on the car as they are accessories. Make sure it's a (CPO) Certified Pre Owned so you get the remainder of the 100k Powertrain warranty. If it has the original Dunlop tires ask for them to be replaced with the Michelin's they use on the 2012's, the Dunlop tires are noisy and usually wear out in under 25k miles. Beyond that just the obvious stuff when your buying a vehicle, check and check again to make sure everything is the way you want it to be before signing the dotted line !

On the 2010 pay particularly close attention to the sun roof and all door seals to make sure they are in good condition. Open and close all the doors to make sure they don't squeak (this is nothing major, it's just the rubber seal needing to be lubricated). If you hear any sort of rattling noise during your test drive have it addressed before purchasing (the noise is usually coming from the sunroof area). Beyond that they are a great car, I have a 2010 3.8L and it has been a solid performing car overall.

A pre :welcome: to the Hyundai Genesis family :)

I have the car your looking for and you will love it. My 2010 4.6 is as tight as the day I bought it. I have 28,000 miles and just replaced the Dunlops. Personally, I did not have a problem with those tires. The 17 speaker system in the 4.6 is to die for in a car. Significant difference from the 3.8. You will also love the adaptive cruise control. Buy it!

Not 100% sure if you meant for these two statements to be related, or whether you where talking about the drivetrain differences between the V6 and V8. The V6 Tech Package has the exact same 17 speaker system as the V8 (as well as virtually all other non-drivetrain features, except for fake-wood steering wheel, and a few very minor things that only the V8 has).

Wait - didn't the v8 get a 15 or 20 bump in hp mid year, like every car built after late may? Something to that effect, and I understand it made a difference in accerlation.

I don't know when the change was made, but the increase was only 10 HP to 385 HP. A lot of people give up that much by running on regular fuel instead of premium, and most say they cannot tell the difference.

Thanks gameday22! I will be sure to check on and research some more your points of interest to be aware of when I start looking especially the CPO. I have read a few threads about it here and it was very interesting to see the difference in opinions.

Stoofpilot I hear you on the V-8. I have driven 8's my whole life sans my Taurus and I miss the torque, that launch off the line when you cob it. The sound system is another draw you are correct about that for sure.

888 & Circle thanks for the tip on the HP. 15-20 ain't much but hey I'll fight for every bit.

Thanks again folks and keep them coming please!! :-)

888 is correct, it's only 10 to 12, but I have read reviews that said that, for whatever the reason, there was a .2 or .3 second increase in the second-iteration V8 Genesis 0-60 times. I think there were more engine modifications, like a wider torque curve, etc., which would logically give results like that. And I'm pretty sure it's all V8s made after the 3rd week in May - the answer is on the forums here somewhere, that is where I read about initially.

Here is the Changelog for the 2010 vs. the 2009:

NEW EQUIPMENT HIGHLIGHTS FOR 2010

* Smart Cruise Control available on Technology Package
* Electronic parking brake with automatic vehicle hold available on Technology Package
* Suspension and Steering adjustments.

It also states a Mid Year V8 engine change: which took it from 368HP Regular / 375HP Premium to 375/385HP respectively. It doesn't state a specific date for this change but it would be safe to say after 7/2010 as a production date. The engine torque remains the same at 333 lb-ft.

It's amazing how much praise this car has received and I think it to be well deserved:
