  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Why do people hate Genesis so much?

People hate what they perceive is a threat to what they are heavily invested in; it would actually be worse if people didn't hate on Genesis.

For instance, over on Club Lexus - they have long, in depth discussions on Genesis/particular models.

Otoh, they don't really pay much attention to Infiniti and Acura.

Does anyone? Funny thing is I actually like the exterior look of the newer Infiniti SUVs. Unfortunately, that is all I like of them. The Acura SUVs are better and I do see more of them than of the Infiniti. On a very unscientific anecdotal basis I would say that out here I see luxury SUVs in the following volume order: Lexus; BMW; Mercedes; Genesis; Audi (Genesis and Audi seem pretty close); Range Rover/Jaguar (not counting the ubiquitous Waymo self driving Jaguars); Acura; Cadillac; Infiniti; and Lincoln (are they all rentals?). Very unscientific. Of the list, all but Lexus, Genesis, Cadillac and Infiniti are sold by and at the same set of foreign luxury dealerships (Penske Group) and the Lexus dealership is across the street.

I just visited a showroom and spoke to a very honest and forthright salesman. He told me that the car has tremendous problems with flat tires. There is no spare tire at all and they do not have run flat tires on the car. I live in NY and every winter most drivers experience flat tires and cracked rims. Looks great but I don't need any more problems in my schedule and budget.

Some lack spare tires. My GV70 has one.

Next complaint?

I don't profess to know why people hate Genesis so much; I'm just glad they do. I buy my cars used. My fear is that if more people start liking Genesis as much as I do, used Genesis prices will climb out of my reach. Shhhhh.....please don't let people know how good these cars are, and ruin it for me.

In 2015 I purchased a 2011 Hyundai Genesis 4.6L for one third of the price that the original owner paid for the car. It was one amazing automobile. It was a little stiff, but ate the curves like a dream, threw me back in the seat when I stepped on the gas, had a great sound system, and looked so good a couple people asked me how long I have had my Bentley. I drove the car for 10 years. I would still be driving it, but at 157,000 miles the electronic parking brake module failed which is a $5,000 part. I live in Pennsylvania and a car cannot pass state inspection without an emergency brake. It was time for another Genesis

In 2025, I traded the 4.6L for a 2021 G90 3.3T AWD. Again I paid one third of what the original owner paid. Talk about value for the dollar; a loaded Honda would have cost me more.

I read often on this forum that many feel that the dealer experience is nothing to write home about. I can't comment on Genesis service departments because I have an independent mechanic who services my vehicles; however, I purchased the G90 from a dual Genesis/Hyundai dealership and I can't say enough about the experience. The vehicle has over 92,000 miles on it, and is in fantastic condition inside and out.

I would usually shy away from a car with such high mileage; however, because it was maintained at a Genesis dealership, there was a complete service record on Carfax. I have detailed information on every service visit rom the date it was delivered to the first owner until the date he traded in on another one.

The guy was getting oil changes every three months. The report told me that within the last year the car had new tires, brakes, rotors, and it's 90,000 mile service. That is what brought me to the dealership. The condition of the car is what sold me. I am pretty picky, and I could not find a flaw. It is hard for me to believe that a car could go that many miles and still look this good. On top of all of that, the car was priced at $4,000 less than the CarFax market value.

Hopefully, people will keep hating on Genesis, so the I can still afford another one, when my current G90 expires.
