“Connected USB device not supported” when connecting droid phone to 3.6 09' tech

Getting “Connected USB device not supported” when attempting to connect droid phone to 2009 tech
I recently purchased a 2009 3.6 Genesis with tech package. I have a Motorola Droid X android phone with Verizon and only once was I able to connect to the stereo via USB and play the songs that are on my SD card through the car stereo. I have only been able to get the phone to connect once, the first time I connected it. Every time I connect it now it says “Connected USB device not supported.”
1) Yes, my phone is set to USB mass storage
2) I have tried multiple USB cords
3) I have placed music files in multiple locations on SD card
4) My phone is not rooted
5) I tried connecting while music is playing on the phone
6) I formatted my SD card and replaced the music files.
I am completely stumped. I know this is possible because it worked just fine when I did it the first time. I’m frustrated I’m having this much difficulty.
Has anybody else had problems with connecting their droid phone via USB? What did you do to fix it? Was there an app on the phone that you installed or was there an app that you found was interfering?

Confirmed with my 2009 4.6 tech. My guess is that the tech head unit doesn't have the software to read music from an Android phone.

My phone: HTC Sensation, rooted, custom kernel & ROM.

Quick search on XDA shows one R-spec owner cannot connect. Another Genesis owner can, but does not say which model or trim, coupe v. sedan or tech v. standard.

Well it worked once so I imagine the software is still there to read it. I did have this happen to my system when I was still on my first tank of gas from the dealer. It hasn't done it since. Videos are kinda long but show how I had no FM radio and the XM would only switch between 2 channels finally mid way through the 2nd video XM starts to act sporadically by adding and removing some channels.

Oh Geez I just figured out the problem!! USB Ddbugging mode! I had debugging mode enabled. As soon as I disabled it everything worked.
Problem solved.

Haha, the XDA member in me was just about to ask about whether you had this option on or not, or if you had flashed a custom kernel that had enabled fast(er) USB charge (most have the option, a person turns it on, and wonder why they're device is not picked up as a drive over a tv media player interface or something or the sort).

If you are security minded individual (with a pattern or pin lock)... it's a good habit to turn the USB Debugging off (after you are finished using it for whatever flashing/bootloader/custom purpose), as it could allow someone (w/ some knowledge) to bypass the lock in an easy fashion via ADB or other methods.

Some people wouldn't care and simple security from prying eyes when they leave a phone around others is all they're looking for..so leaving USB Debug on isn't a big deal.

For the record, my Galaxy Nexus running JB 4.1.1 & leankernel shows up fine when connected to my co-workers '09 sedan w/ Tech. We just went out at lunch and tried it out. USB Debug=off
