  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi Everyone,

I have a Phantom Black 2009 Genesis with Tech Package (Canada), and the drivers side door handle keyless access button has stopped working. It feels as though it has just physically worn out - there's no more tactile "click" when pressed. Everything works as normal on the car aside from this one keyless access button to lock and unlock with ease, and naturally, it bugs me.

I've contacted my dealer with my VIN, and also written to a popular eBay user with my VIN, to price new vs used handles. The thing is, the dealer is quoting me part number: 826513M020AF with the following explanation "I gave them your vin number to search the part and the only part number listed is the one I advised your need. It is a different part from 08-09 and 09-13. Where your production date is late June - Dec 2008 it would fall under 2009"

The eBay user swears up and down that I need part number: 826513M010AF .... so that's 10AF (Korean parts supplier) vs 20AF (dealer quote). Now my gut instinct is to of course trust the dealer, but they've been incorrect with parts once or twice before.

Can anyone advise? Has anyone else had to replace their door handles for this reason, and I'm wondering if this will even fix the button issue!

Here is the eBay listing: GENESIS 09- GeNuiNe DOOR OUTSIDE HANDLE FRONT LEFT 826513M020AF | eBay

I have a silver 2009 as well with the same issue. Have you taken the plunge?

I have the same issue - passenger side works fine, drives side has stopped working. Did the dealer have to replace the whole door handle?

Unfortunately the entire handle must be replaced

I had the same issue, but I was able to remove the handle and take it apart so I only had to replace the button. Since the same button works for both passenger and driver side, I ordered a used passenger handle on ebay as I figured it would have more life left in it and transferred the button piece to my driver door handle. I'm still using the original handle so the color still matches the car. The handle can be easily removed by opening the door, removing the black plug on inside door and using an 8MM socket to remove the bolt holding the lock in place. Be careful not to drop the bolt. I used needle nosed pliers with two hands and constant pressure to remove the bolt once it was loosened with a ratchet. Once the handle is removed you'll see there is a phillips head and 2 torx screws holding the handle pieces together. The phillips and a torx screw are visible from the outside. The second torx screw is on the same side as the first one, but underneath the chrome trim piece. Once you've removed the screw holding the chrome trim on, slide the chrome trim piece up to reveal the 2nd torx screw. Remove that and the handle is ready to be taken apart. You don't need to completely remove the chrome trim piece. I've attached pics on how to take the handle apart. the Top piece is held on by the screws you removed and tabs. A sharp knife will separate the pieces, just be patient and wiggle the knife a bit until you here the pieces unsnap. After that it comes apart and the button is exposed. Remove the button, replace the same way with the new button and re-assemble in the same order as you disassembled.
