  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Folks,

I'm about to pull the Trigger on a New 2013 (3000mi Demo) Equus, and was wondering what Folks are running in the Quarter?? I've seen High 13's from Motor Trends Review, But any Real World Experiences???

Thanks

Basically, while the Equus can indeed run at a drag strip, most owners are unlikely to do so. It is sorta like asking your mother to run a 100 yard dash - she can do it, but what is the point?
That said, there is a site: www.zeroto60times.com that offers some info, but nothing on your intended Equus. They have a 2011, which I think had the lesser 4.6 motor, doing 0-60 in 6.0 sec. and 14.4 in QT. Also have a 2012 RSpec, your power train, doing 0-60 in 4.7 sec and 13.1 in Qt. The Equus is several hundred pounds heavier than the RSpec so I think you would see 0-60 in low 5s and qt. in about 13.5. I had a 2012 RSpec. Never dragged it, but it dynoed at 352RWHP.

I can't imagine a Equus owner being concerned about the quarter mile time for a luxo car weighing 4,500 pounds.

I have cars that run a quarter in high elevens and low 12s. My Equus is not doing a quarter mile in 13 seconds. Its not slow but its no where near that quick.

I ALSO have a Low 10 Second, Whipplecharged 2011 Mustang GT...so I Know a Little Bit (to put it Midly) about Drag Racing, and that Being Said, at 430hp and 4600lbs, it 'Should' run a High 13@101-103something....Yes, I'm curious!!

I echo the posts above
If 0-60 drag times are important to you...the Equus is not the best match for you

if you want a full size sedan that can do well on the dragstrip I suggest an AMG Mercedes S class
Its has both the engine and suspension dynamics to have a big edge at the dragstrip

There is very restrictive torque management programmed into first and maybe second gears of Hyundai's 8 speed transmission. This alone seriously impedes any launch which retards quarter mile times. Where the Equus' power shines is in high speed passing when all the torque is applied.
I think the torque management is Hyundai's method of prolonging transmission life.

Thanks Guys,
I'm Not buying the Equus to be 1/4mile Car, However, I thought it would be Neat for Folks to see an Equus there, Running a Respecatble High 13...Years ago I saw a Rolls Corniche there running high 14's, and Folks were LOVIN it!!

I took my 2014 Equus from about 30 to 150+ and it did great, not sure
of the time, just wanted to see how it did when the road was clear.

Where the Equus shines is from about 20 to 80 or so, there have been
numerous instances where drivers do not want to let you in traffic, so
when you punch it, the Equus takes off like a rocket, and the others
can't believe you just left them behind.

Have enjoyed all of my Equus cars, the 2011 was slower ( smaller
engine ), but from 2012 on all 5.0 engine and 8 speed.

I am test driving a 2016 S550 right now, my last Mercedes was a 2009
S550, the new one has so much more electronics, and as before I would
not use half of it. I like the 2016, but again not worth the $$. Taking it
back Friday, not looking for another car right now, possibly next October,
but a friend of mine who happens to be the Mercedes dealer rode in my
Equus, and insisted I test drive a S550.

I think you have already mentioned that you dont use half of the electronic technology in a Mercedes S class

So..for you it would be a waste of the extra money

I buy a car for reliability, size, fit finish, comfort, sound system,
and safety, both cars do this well.

I do not think anyone buys a car just for the electronics.

I have never used all the features, a car has, even way back
many years ago, when many cars did not have so many
features.

Just to Update, on Friday Night, 82d, 62d Dewpoint, I ran a 14.0@101...And the Car weighs 4895 with me in it, and I'm 168lbs... Not Bad!

I understand EXACTLY why you want to know the performance of the Equus. If you're like me - you don't need the information for drag racing - but to get an idea how powerful the car is. I always ask questions like this - even if the car is slow. I just want to know...

In any event - 14.0 is pretty darn good for such a big, heavy luxury sedan! Thank you for posting your time so that others can refer to this in the future...
