  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

100 Hyundai Equus sedans coming to U.S. dealers

Are they actually going to be selling these babies?

I also like the hood ornament - the RR, and the Mercedes star (which you can still find on the S-Class)

Hey guys/gals. Annapolis Hyundai in Annapolis Maryland will be one of the dealers proudly displaying a Hyundai Genesis Equus. Come check it out!

Wish I was there! Post pictures when you get one!

Nope. The Hyundai Equus is for display only - for now...

Chicago area: They're here!!!!

Got this email last night. As you can see, everyone is invited:

I just wanted to let you know that the Hyundai equus will be on display from tomorrow through June 30th. You are welcome to stop by and take a look. Hyundai is very interested in the consumer evaluation of this possible entry in to our high line lineup. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Please pass this along to others that you may know and invite them to come in as well.
Thanks!!

When I picked up my Genesis this Wednesday at Glendora Hyundai (CA), the salesman said he got it from Garden Grove, and they had an Equus on the lot.

So of course I had to go see it. It was in the parking lot under a tent. Honestly, I liked it better in the photos. In person, its BIG, and ultra lux.

In its current Korean form, it is very much a chauffeur car, with beau coup rear seat room, with reclining ventilated back seats (and front seats that can be tilted upright from the back!), rear tray tables, etc. The sales guy said a US model would not be designed for the "driven" owner, so we'll see.

The hood ornament is ostentatious, and I like the Genesis wing logo a lot more than the Equus wing logo. The latter looks vaguely like a Klingon "Bird of Prey". Also, the rear fender curvature is really prominent.

If the Genesis is a Lexus or Mercedes for value conscious, the Equus looks like a Rolls or Bentley. I'd be interested to see what the passenger volume is in cubic feet. I bet its more than any current mass-production sedan.

Saw, and sat in the Horse yesterday. Holy NSFW! This baby is huge, and Smiller's description above is spot-on... Very Rolls/Bentley like.
No drives, no specs, and was told that nobody has a clue what the final US version will offer. The GM did say that if/when it gets here it will be an extremely limited offering. HMCA is thinking no more than 2000 the first year. Also that Hyundai is very aware of dealer/service perceptions and may still carve out the Gen/Equus and an SUV as a standalone.
But here's the best part:
While we don't know what goodies will be included or deleted, the GM said the Equus will NOT be priced over $49,999! At that price, sign me up!

As in Garden Grove Hyundai on GG Blvd? I may have to go see it...

I think so. Just north of the 22 fwy, exit at Brookhurst. I just went where the Nav system told me to. POI->Auto->Hyundai Dealerships. I used to be good with maps -- this thing is going to make me stupid.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!

Hehe, didn't even think to use the GPS. Yes, it is at Garden Grove Hyundai. Surprising since it's one of the smallest Hyundai dealerships I've ever seen. If I wasn't looking for a tent on the lot, I would have missed it.

I put up the photos I took when I was there today: Hyundai Equus in the U.S. photo album

My reactions:

  • It's huge. It makes the Genesis look small.
  • The styling is not as attractive (IMHO) as the Genesis, but it definitely looks the part of a big, $70K sedan.
  • The Equus branding has got to go. Not only can't I get a naked Daniel Radcliffe out of my head every time I hear the name, but the logo and image evoked by Equus pale in comparison to the Genesis brand.
  • It's definitely seems to be designed as an executive saloon. You, the owner, are meant to be in the back right seat with your driver up front. It's practically first class airliner roomy in the back. And lacking only the fender flags and privacy partition, this would be a diplomatic or VIP town car.
  • If people think the Genesis is a mini-Bentley, with the size and the winged hood ornament, they'll think the Equus is the real thing.
  • Whereas people can quibble about whether the Genesis is worth $40K, the feel and presence of the Equus, even just sitting it without the car turned on, make it not far-fetched to pay $60K for it.
  • The sales guy there said that people have been wanting to put a deposit on it. Seems like a good bet that we'll see it here in the States.

Thanks, smillerathome, for the tip about it being in GG so I could take a look after Father's Day lunch! :)

Probably more Maybach-like than Rolls and I would think the sub-$50k price is for the starting base-price; who knows how high the price would go w/ options/or larger engine (supercharged V-8?), but I wouldn't be surprised if the fully-loaded Equus retails somewhere in the low to mid $60k range.

Nice pics...that was quick. You must've really wanted to see it!

For my needs, the Genesis is plenty big enough. Its roughly the same size as the Lexus LS, Mercedes S-class, and BMW 7 series. If they made, say, a Genesis L, with adjustable suspension, an 8-way adjustable (and cooled) passenger seat, auto trunk closure, key fobs that recognize the driver, and maybe adaptive laser cruise control and lane departure warning, and it will have everything the fussiest luxury buyer would need. And keep it under $50K. Only the true believers of the older brands would be able to resist.

Thanks for the pictures.

If anyone knows of one being or comeing to South Florida, I'd love to know; just to see it. Even Central Florida the week after July 4th; I'd abandon the family in the parks for a day; I'm sure the Mouse will take good care of them.

I'd love to see one too in the New York area

Great pictures, DataGuy! And I second wanting to see one of these in South Florida.. Bring it anywhere around here and I'll be there...
