12v Cig Lighter Fuse location

Does anyone know the location of the fuse(s) that protect the two "Cig Lighters" The descriptions in the manual aren't clear, and with the reset procedures, I don't want to start yanking them willy-nilly.

I am planning to switch them over to "always hot" like many American vehicles. I can't keep anything charged (phone, iPod, etc.) without bringing them inside at night.

Both the drivers side and passenger side fuse boxes are located to either side of the dash and can be seen when either door is open. If you remove the cover, the back of the cover very nicely details the fuse locations and their function. I believe the lighter fuse is on the drivers side location. (I looked last when attaching my radar detector).

I'm looking at both of the fuse box covers. The passenger side has two fuse slots labeled [P/Outlet(RR)] & [P/Outlet(FR)]. The first is a 15amp while the second is a 10amp. Nothing else seems close.

I know this is not answering your question, and I'm sorry, but I want to input this.

I like the system the Genesis has vice the "American" system that keeps the power to the lighter plugs on all the time. I found that the only advantage to having the power on all the time is when a battery has to be changed, where you plug in a small 9 volt battery just to keep the memory alive, while the battery is being changed. Even then, than is not needed as most places that change out the car battery use a seperate clamp on to the battery posts, in order to keep the memory alive.

As for charging a cell phone, in my case, I normally charge it at home but when on a trip, I charge it in the car and it charges between stops.

I just learned, the hard way, that the fuse box selections on the driver's side is always hot.
The fuse box on the passenger's side is switched to the "key". Finally got my radar detector wired in.

Just finished converting my outlets to "always hot". It was real easy once I figured out the inner workings of the add-a-circuit taps (in the pics). To be clear, each fuse box (driver & passenger) has BOTH "ignition" and "always hot" empty slots available.

Here's a pic of the fuse install and a pic proving it works!

This picture is taken the the Dark from the passenger door area showing all systems off yet the two power taps working.

Actually, I do not believe this is correct. I tested several slots on the drivers side with a voltmeter, and what you find is some slots are always hot, others are switched with the ignition. So I was able to choose a drivers side slot that was switched with the key.

(Guess I should have read the last post before responding as the same point is made there too )

Nabber, yes you are correct ! So much for my memory . Glad the install worked out OK

Any thoughts on how to keep either of the lighter sockets alive all the time by making some adjustment at the fuse boxes, I really don't want to run a new power wire to the lighter or have to remove the fuse block to get to the wiring behind it. I am thinking along the lines of taking power out of an empty connection slot that is always hot and running it over to where the output end fuse that supplies the line going to the lighter. Just a jumper if you will that makes sure not to feed power back to the switch power and only goes on to the lighter.

Post #6 in this thread show how to wire it. Two fuse taps wired together and placed as shown does the trick.

Sorry for being so thick on this. I see the fuse taps ( is that the passanger side ? ) but can't be sure from your previous comments exactly which ones they are looks like second row second and forth from the right. Is that correct and if possible what are they naned. Where do the pinkish wires go? are they connected together or are they receiving power from somewhere, are the wire leads connected to the downstream end of the lighter fuses or the upstream ? sorry

The red wires are actually the same wire. I just tucked the excess behind the panel.

Those taps are from Autozone and actually have two fuse holders. Put the fuses in the top slot as the bottom sot is a pass-through if memory serves. Took me a few minutes to map out the internal configuration in my head and test with a circuit light. What this does is draw power from the downstream side of an unused 12v source and route it to the upstream side of the lighter.

The fuse for the lighter is in the fuse box under the hood. It is a 10 amp fuse. I had my blow by a cheapo cell phone charger. I stopped by the dealer and watched him replace it under the hood. When my cheapo blew it again I just bought some new fuses and put a new one in myself.

I had the same thing happen in our 94 Lexus ES 300.

After the second blown fuse, I got out the multi-meter and checked the lighter plug-in on the cell phone charger. I found continuity between one of the negative connections on the side to the positive connector at the end of the plug. Obviously, there was a short in the body of the connector.

Needless to say, this charger was trashed and replaced with a new one. No problem since then.

14 years later I'm trying to figure out how to power an LED exterior light strip for my '10 4.6 Tech. I've look at both fuse boxes in the engine but can't figure out which one is for the cig lighter. I have fuse taps (never used them before), but can't for life of me figure out which 10a fuse to use that's only on with ignition. I found 'always hot' ones, but that's not what I want. Any help here? Thanks
