  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I want to install a 12v power plug outlet in the trunk to power a cooler or something. It should be easy as the battery is right there, I just want to see if someone already done it a nice way :) Looking for proper parts/fuse suggestions as well.

Your fuse and wire sizes will be determined by the maximum draw of whatever device you install. Allow for a little bit of excess in the fuse because coolers typically draw maximum when starting their cooling cycle. You might also consider a slow-blow fuse for the cooler if it tends to blow fuses when it starts.

Again as mentioned it really depends on the device you are powering. Can you get the specs on how much power the cooler draws? Hopefully they give you 2, 1 when it starts and one when it's running.

You should probably find a power wire that is switched to only power when the ignition is on. Either that or get friendly with AAA. :)

I like this one:

it's built nice, rugged and you can back it behind the trunk liner to make it a solid feel...cut out a thick piece of plastic to bolt it against behind the panel. Now, depending on what you wish to power, I would use at least 10 or 12 gauge wire and fuse it with a 15 or 20 amp fuse. Connecting it to the battery is a no brainer. I would not tie it into a switched wire, but if you were considering a high current draw item I wound consider connecting it to a 12V switched power to a relay. That way, you don't draw the current off the 12V line for the device and let the 12v switched kick a relay that allows power to the device.
