  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

15,000 mile check-up

I have the original Walmart receipts for the Mobil 1, with no lines drawn through them by Customer Service if I had returned them. For the filters, I keep the receipts PLUS I staple them to the UPC/barcode that I cutout from the boxes.

That's why I see those oil filter boxes at Walmart and can't figure out why all of the tops are ripped off of them! Haha.

UPC is on the side of the box, not on the top. You cannot return a product without a UPC code, and they can't sell one either. Anyway, since I use OEM filters, I don't get them from Walmart (I only the purchase the oil at Walmart and I make sure the cap is sealed).

Many years ago, I bought a Mobil 1 oil filter for a Toyota (cost about $10), and when I opened the box is was some POS filter that some customer obviously swapped out in the store.

I have seen quick lube places use refilled Mobil 1 1-quart bottles and charged for Mobil 1. I am pretty sure it was not Mobil 1 in the bottle.

The quick lube places only promise to change your oil and coolant.

Who said anything about new product?

It was new oil (I could tell by the color) but since the seals on the caps were already broken, and they didn't throw away the empty containers, I kind of doubt it was Mobil 1. I changed it myself a few days later. This was on a Toyota about 10 years ago.

The one any only time I had a dealer change the oil on my Genesis, I supplied my own oil and put it in the trunk. Then I put 2 different stick-on labels on the oil filler cap that said "Use oil in trunk." The service advisor said that was no problem and I would get a discount for supplying the oil. When I asked him how the technician would know to use the oil in the trunki, he said it was written in the text of the work order.

When the oil change was done, and I was given the invoice for the oil change, they charged me for the oil. When I told them I supplied the oil, they took the car back into the shop and came back about 20 min later. My car uses 5.5 quarts, so I had a 5-quart jug and a single 1-quart jug. They didn't use any of the 1-quart jug, but when I got home the oil level was 1 quart high. The next day I changed the oil myself with Mobil 1.

You assumed they could actually read?

I pretty much stopped telling dealer stories - too many, too depressing, and it makes people mad when they see how they've been hustled by dealers.

I assumed they could read English. I am pretty sure that had I written the stick-on label (put on the oil filler cap instructed them to use oil in trunk) in Spanish that I would have had a better chance of them getting it right.

You guys must go out of your way to find the worst places in the world to have your service done. Seriously.

Also - why toss out the oil from the Toyota because you know it's new but not sure if it's mobile 1. That's crazy. And do you really believe your engine will burn up without using mobile 1? News flash. It won't.

If I knew it was synthetic, I would not have changed it. I assume that the reason they went to the trouble of refilling old Mobil 1 containers was that the oil they put in was much cheaper house brand conventional oil.

BTW, it's Mobil 1, not mobile 1.

I always go out my way to find the best, no matter what the product, or service, is. In today's world, it pays big dividends. It's a reality of life.

In some instances, like car service, D.I.Y. is the best route - not saying I like it all the time. But, I know exactly what I'm getting. And, I've got the experience and tools to get it right, the way I want it.

Seriously,

I know the spelling. But I'm using my iPhone and it eats my spelling.

I've run fleets of trucks in my business. Using whatever oil and doing 10k miles changes. These trucks are run very hard. Much worse than anything you would do to your own car. We use conventional oil and whatever brand we get the best deal on a barrel. It is very very rare we see an engine failure and we run the trucks (both Ford and Rams) to 250k on the gassers before we get rid of them. They run loaded all of the time. So if you run a change or two on a personal car with non-synthetic oil - it won't matter. I'm 1000% certain.

And you do not know if they did anything nefarious at the shop. You assume the worst of people and assume that they swapped out the oil. That's pretty sad. Either you go to the wrong type of business or you are just a very suspicious person.

This thread has gotten pretty far from the OP. But I am not surprised - oil seems to be a religion - just as crazy anyway. It's humorous actually.

I've drove a few trucks, too. Fords, Chevy's, big ones, small ones, you name it, etc.

I think maybe you are on the wrong Forum - we're talking about Hyundai Genesis's sedans here.

Seriously, and maybe "actually" -- You are way off topic - I-Phones??

My mistake. A Genesis engine is unlike any other engine in existence. You're right. If not for Mobil 1 the Genesis engine would blow up in 3k miles. Lol.

Update

Had my 15,000 miles check up completed yesterday. Total cost was $300.40 which included a 4 wheel alignment. The price included a $50 discount coupon I received online before I dropped off the car from Wallace Hyundai. The alignment was $100. While there they also performed 2 recalls. I stopped in a week before to insure they ordered the parts. They did the Cowl Cover and the Dummy Housing recalls.

All inspections came back good. Battery, brakes, tire wear, etc... They replaced both air filters and the cabin filter. They performed an induction cleaning, changed the oil, rotated the tires and completed a multipoint inspection. The only issue found was the alignment. The left front toe was .22 degrees and the left rear camber was -2.1 degrees. They are now corrected to .10 degrees and .19 degrees respectively.

When I picked up the car I asked them when I am ready to get the new tires if I could pay the difference between them and Michelin Pilot Super Sports. I mentioned that other forum members here who had the new Continentals installed were still having the flat spotting issue. They agreed that they have had customers come back in after the tire swamp with complaints with both the V6 & V8 models. He told me he would ask his manager and give me a call back today. I will update once I hear back from them.

Regarding the alignment, I must say that I do feel the ride is even better than before which I didn't think was possible. :D True test is the highway which I plan on taking to work this morning as I had to stop someplace on the way home yesterday and didn't get a chance to test the alignment on the highway.
