  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I brought my 2012 RSpec in for an oil change and they tried to do the 15,000 mi service, which I'm not read
y to do.
After the oil charge they said I did need/reccommend 2 things.

i) Fuel Injection Service ( cost $160)

ii) Emission Service

iii) Replace cabin air filter

I asked the manager were any part involved in these services and he said no, it's only labor.

Anyone have any experience with either of these...is it needed or this just a way to get more money from me.
It sounds like it is...

Thx.

Check your manual - the cabin air filter I could see where that needs replacing - fuel system treatment I don't remember seeing in the 15K maintenance...

My dealer never mentioned any of that except the cabin filter, which i suggested they change. Any Fuel system service = REP (Revenue Enhancement Program). If you use top tier fuel and aren't having a problem, it's totally unnecessary. If you aren't, a $7.00 bottle of Chevron Techron from Walmart is what they would use (bur it is branded Hyundai).

Just fyi we dont have FI we have DI. Fuel injector cleaner has zero value.

When a dealer says things like this it tells me about the dealer... out to take advantage of customers.

Pretty sure the only thing required at 15K is the cabin filter, oil/filter, tire rotation.

My suggestion is to have fun with the Service Manager and take him to task on the fuel system service. Ask him to specifically show you where on the DI engine you need this. Cabin Filter yes.

Definitely do this!!!! +2

Local dealer tried to do upsell fuel injector cleaner on my 2009 4.6 stating that it's recommended for all cars. I asked why for non-GDI engines since it's not in the manual, saying no thanks.

Service writer was smart enough not to push.

As mentioned about 100 times on this forum, even if it is a good idea, you can simply purchase some Chevron Techron at a local discount store or auto parts store and put it in yourself. Hyundai fuel injector cleaner sold in the US is made by Chevron.

You still have fuel injectors on a DI engine. How do you think they get the fuel in there? ;)

They are just located in a different spot, i.e., they dump into the combustion chamber vice the intake runners. ;)
