  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Today, March 11, 2015, finished up the day at 150,083 miles on my 2011 Genesis 4.6 w/tech. I purchased it new in Sept. 2010. I am looking forward to another 75k to 100k miles. I love this car.

Do you still have original brakes?

Could you describe your maintenance rituals and any notable issues, mod's, or observations? I just recently recently purchased my '11 4.6 with 33k miles. The car it replaced was totaled and it had 320k miles and ran like a top. The extremely long term ownership is something I am very interested in.

Conrats!

I might join this club in about .....20 years :D

Lol
I'm in the same boat with my 7 - 8K miles per year :)

The car is stock, no mods. I replaced oe brakes at 130k, they still had maybe 10k left on the pads. Oil/filter change every 5k using oem filter and Valvoine synpower 5w30 oil. Transmission serviced at dealer about every 60k. Every Spring I get a new charcoal cabin air filter from amazon. Fuel tank air filter every 30k and fuel filter every 60k. Replaced spark plugs at 100k. Only cost since new besides maintenance was last week with a check engine light which was caused by a bad sensor and valve in the emission system, fix was 285.00 at our new dealer here in Athens.

What is a Fuel Tank Air Filter? Is this something unique to Hyundai or Genesis? I never heard of such a thing..... Where does it go? How much does it cost? How difficult is it to replace? What is its purpose?

Its in the required maintenance schedule. It is what it says, it filters the air that passes into the gas tank as the fuel level goes down. A lot of newer cars have them. I paid to have it replaced so I can't say on how difficult it is to replace.

Here ya go. Fuel tank air filters are very common in Hyundai/Kia vehicles.

DIY guide.

That entire thread seems to be about the fuel filter itself. Not the air filter which is referred to above.

I can say that after reading the thread and finding the Hyundai put the fuel filter actually inside the fuel tank.... I will not change mine unless a problem occurs. That is an insane place to put one. Usually there is a "screen" before the pump and the actual fuel filter is inline on the way to the engine.

Wow, I'm right behind you....closing in on 10k on my '12.

Congrats, I can't imagine spending that much time in the car though....

There is a link on the page about the fuel filter that takes you to the fuel tank air filter info.

Thanks. I didn't see that the first time. Now that I have, I realize neither of these filters are getting changed on my car! lol. Way too much hassle and probably will never cause any issue. If I get a light on the IP or some problem, I will deal with it.

I think Hyundai went out of their way to make these a PITA!

I prefer to be proactive and maybe save time and money. Even a partially clogged filter puts added strain on the pickup fuel pump which can shorten its life and result in an expensive repair, ie complete fuel pump replacement.

Sorry, I posted the wrong thread. It's this one.

Just pasted 175,000 miles. Running great no oil use, transmission still performs like new. Recently had my first issue that caused car to be in shop which was with the fuel gauge sending unit in the fuel tank. The sending unit stopped working and interestingly it caused the check engine light to come on. Dealer gave me a loaner while waiting for part. I had a top of the line new Sonata for a loaner, nice car just no POWER.

You are extremely blessed. It's going to be hard for me to buy another Hyundai.

I was curious if you ever changed the transmission fluid, coolant, and rear differential fluid? Thanks for sharing your obviously successful maintenance plan.
