If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I posted over in the tires/wheels thread but didn't get a response.

I have a '13 3.8 Tech which came with 18" wheels. I would like to get dedicated 17" wheels for winter tires. Tirerack shows 17" and 18" packages, but it doesn't ask me about my trim level.

Does the Tech have different brakes compared to the base trim that would prevent a 17" wheel from fitting?

From my understanding, only the RSPEC requires different wheels cause of the oversized calipers.

Thanks, Classy..

Anyone (in the snow belt) with a 3.8 Tech do something similar? I'd hate to order something that doesn't fit. :)

I tried 17" on my 2012 Premium. They were rubbing on the front calipers,, so I had to go with 18". If you can, try before you buy.

Thanks, katman0. That's what I was afraid of. Looking through the 18"s on the car, the calipers are pretty close already.

17s should work. Only the V8s get bigger brakes because of the extra weight. The tech package doesn't really add much more weight to the base car.

Thanks, Buford. I've posed the question to the TireRack guys and hopefully they'll have some 17's that fit the 3.8 Genesis.

I had 17" winter wheels & tires from my 2009 Genny on my 2012. The 2012 had significantly larger front calipers and the clearance was minimal, but they did fit. I will tell you you need to use thin wheel weights for balancing as the thicker ones will foul the caliper :D

If anybody's interested, these wheels and Michelin tires are now For Sale as they won't fit my 2015. Located in Southern Ontario.

Thanks, CanukV6. I'll wait till I hear back from TireRack, but I'd assume they know about the clearance issues with the Genesis calipers and will ensure they fit.

My main question was if the calipers for the base and Tech are different. If they are identical, then I'll have no issues choosing 17" over 18" regardless of trim level.

I don't think there are any changes mechanically between Base & Tech models in the 3.8 V6. They all have the same engine power level and chassis so I am fairly sure the only brake change would be between V6 & V8 models.

I would be interested in them, I'm in the US though, not sure if that would make shipping to much of a hassle.

I have a 09 3.8 with premium package. came with 18" but I have the 17" OEM wheels with dedicated snows. No rubbing. no problems.

Thanks to you all, and rabear from the Tires/Wheels forum, and a nice gentleman from TireRack, the 17's that TireRack says will fit on a Genesis 3.8 will fit regardless of trim.

Will be getting Blizzaks mounted on 17" Sport Edition A9 Titanium (cheapest option listed) and TPMS sensors.

Thanks, Classy..

Don't feel alone. I had issues as well. Canadian Tire tried steelies, and they were off by a bit. I tried alloys from Costco.ca and they rubbed some paint off my calipers. Ended up with alloys from 1010tire.com, and they fit. So do you research, and call around. Make sure they know their stuff well to guide you to wheels that will fit your car.

Happy I only have to do this once.

So they upgraded the brakes on the 2012?!

Thanks Classy. I emailed back and forth with a sales rep from TireRack and he said the wheel options that show up after putting in my car will fit it without issues. I can all but guarantee Costco doesn't have the fitment database that TireRack does.

Hey craigt.

I am trying to attach a picture of my Genesis (3.8 with Tech package) with a package I bought from Tire Rack. They are 17" wheels (down from stock 18") and Blizzak WS80's.
You will be amazed at the winter performance if you go this route. I am way more than pleased with this package.

Response to VivienM - page 1.
Yes, at least compared to the 2009. I'm not sure when the change was made.

Would 19" wheels from a 13 or 14 V8 fit on a 13 V6 Tech??
What about wheels from a 15 Gen? (V6 or V8)
