  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

19-inch tires?

No, but I'm looking to. I've seen that people have successfully put 235/55-R19 tires on, but don't know why they'd chose those over a 255/55-R19 or 255/50-R19. If anyone knows, please let us know if the slimmer tire reduces resistance and/or gives an advantage in any other way.

Also, The two I'm looking at are the Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3, or the Michelin CrossClimate2, as they both get good reviews, and compare very favorably to the OE tires (Primacy Tour A/S). But I haven't seen any reviews with these on an EV, so it might be a crap shoot.

The thinner 235 tires can shred and separate from the rim at highway speeds. Happened to me and I was lucky to make it to the shoulder. $5k in repairs, though. Web search suggests it happens more often than generally known, and no recalls. Stick with 255, they're safer.

This happened with your GV60?
What brand of tires?

Why 255 instead of 245/50R19? 245/50R19 is the same width as stock 245/45R20.

How does 2 cm of tire width impact structural integrity? I’d love an explanation as this has me thoroughly confused.

Tires have load and speed ratings. Be sure you buy ones which are rated appropriately for your needs. Going 20mm wider or thinner isn’t something that should impact ‘tire shred.’

Stock 21" tires are 255s. Maybe that's what they're basing it on.

Ahh, I see. Stock 21" tires are 255/40R21, which would be equivalent to 255/50R19. Interesting that the stock 20" and stock 21" are not equivalent.

Stock 255/40R21 is equivalent to 255/45R20, but the stock 20" in the Advanced is 245/45R20:

You'll be fine. I have my winter tires for my Performance mounted on 18" wheels.
Do you have to change any settings in the car when you put on smaller wheels or does the car somehow recognize it and compensate for it in speed, distance, etc.?

As posted above, you need to choose the tire size appropriately. You go from a wide wheel and thin tires to smaller wheel and more tire. The overall tire diameter/circumference should remain the same.

Speedometer?.

I am in the process of researching to replace 21" stock wheels on Performance with 19" wheels. I know I want 255/50R19 Hankook iON evo AS SUV tires and need to find a 19" wheel for them.

I am confused about the offset number on the 21" stock wheels on Performance. Some resources, including some posts in this thread, mention it is +54.5, and some others mention it is +43.5. Does anybody know which one is correct?

+43.5 mm

I’m looking at doing this swap as well. Does anyone have a sense of how much of a market there is for selling the 21” Performance wheels? I don’t really want two sets of wheels, and it would be nice to offset the cost of the new wheels and tires a bit.

Would starting by listing in the For Sale part of this site be a good way to go? I’m in the NE U.S. (Philadelphia), so it’s a densely populated area (and thus more potential local buyers). On the other hand, I’ve never seen another GV60 on the road.
