  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

How do pick a gauge visual to stick with? I love the 3D effects in ECO display, so it’d be nice to keep that visual while in other drive modes. I looked in the owner’s manual and scrolled the the various functions and settings in the infotainment display, all to no avail. Any help you can give is greatly appreciated.
The owners manual has a reference to the "Infotainment Manual". (Available online). Within that it shows user selectable Themes vs automatically following drive modes.

"I Think" this is it

I still can't believe I considered giving up this 3D digital cluster to get leather on the advanced trim.

This cluster, and all the tech really, is absolutely wild. 👌🏼

From what I've seen this is one of the best on the market. I'm glad I got it and I do not consider it a novelty. The graphics are clean and very well executed. Only issue would be if it fails.

The Uni White/Ultramarine Prestige was delivered a couple days ago. No regrets. It's beautiful, drives great with all the tech of a Bond or Batman car without the countermeasures. (unless there's something buried deep in the vast number of settings :) that I haven't reached yet ).

Taking the time to get everything setup. The one thing that is very annoying is the wireless phone charger and the lack of Wireless CarPlay. Why put a charger in the car right where the USB port is to connect to CarPlay? If the Wireless Charger is not turned off the phone gets 2 power sources and overheats the phone. So there's a choice a) Don't Use CarPlay or b) Use Car Play and turn the Wireless Charger off. Neither option is good.

yeah that’s dumb. CarPlay has become my default so I’d end up turning off the charging.

It is a dumb set up and now we have to look at the ugly white cord. Also dumb was putting the 12v in the center arm rest. Now I have to either hard-wire my radar detector or run the cord down the middle of the dash. They could have put another one on the passenger side footwell like Mazda does.

In my GV80 I ran my dashcam wire to the 12V receptacle in the center console (using a plastic trim tool) under the windshield upper seal, down the A pillar, under the glove compartment (using a Gorilla tape tabs under there) over to the console down the side then up into the 12V. Takes a little patience but I can't stand looking at wires. BTW, my radar detector is battery operated and I just attach it to the visor. It's an older Escort Solo but it keeps me out of trouble. Don't know if anyone makes a battery operated detector anymore.

They have wireless car play adapters as an alternative to the wired.

But will it fit neatly into the wireless charge pad compartment with the phone?

It's not that big, and what other choice do you have now?

The compartment layout doesn’t have room.

That's what I'm going to have to do. I ordered a long 8 ft cord but PITA. Escort made the only battery operated detector but the range is minimal and I don't think they even make it any more. I'm running the Uniden R7 which is the current leader out there.

Ok. So wireless CarPlay is what genesis needs to do, preferably a software upgrade. That being said you can keep the wireless charger on and flip your iPhone over to the front and it won’t engage the charger then plug in a short cord. This way if you really only want a charge without CarPlay you can use it.

In addition, the window trim that sometimes appears blacked out and at other times shiny is because it has a smoked out looking top coat over shiny metal (aluminum or other). I have lots of experience (just not automotive) of adding dye (aniline) to lacquer to create toning or shadow effects that are totally transparent since the color is not made up of pigments. I think the wheels probably have a similar treatment. So at certain angles of lighting & perspective it doesn't reflect back at you. Oh & BTW, images that look like the wheel 'waffle' indentions are black or partially black is pure reflections from non illuminated parts of wheel rim.. Bottom side molding is gloss black. Headlight lenses appear tinted.
Wondering if you could share more about the aniline process you mentioned? Like many on here I have the smoked molding that has worn away to where the only to achieve a balanced tone is to polish the trim on the whole door. Problem with that is that it removes the smoke effect so the back door and front door look a little jarring next to one another — one is true chrome the other smoke effect as intended. Also for anyone else reading, since the fading occurred only on the drivers side door, it makes me think washer fluid paver spray/squeegeeing had something to done with it over time. Either way, kind of bs for a 50+k car.
