2.0T hesitant to start

Hey guys! I have a 2020 G70 2.0t. Car sputters when starting up and will struggle at a low RPM before fully starting. Sometimes it fails to start up unless I give the gas a little tap. Dealer has no idea what could cause it because it’s not throwing any codes. Starting to get worse and sometimes the needle will bounce around the RPMs when stopped at a light. Spark plugs? Battery? Fuel pump? Carbon build up on injectors?

You need to provide more information, like mileage, if you bought it used or new, maintenance history, under warranty or not, etc. But if used, and especially with high mileage, you first need to change all fluids, run a bottle of Techron (or equivalent) thru the fuel system, AND use known good gas, preferably premium, and after running a full tank of gas, refuel again, and then you can start diagnosing what could be wrong.

I’ll answer as many of those off the top of my head as I can. 74k miles, bought new, always kept up with maintenance except GDI service (probably time for that), I’ve used premium and regular for road trips, neither changes the outcome. I’ve taken it to the dealership, they’ve replicated the issue as of right now. They’re as lost as I am. They’ve sent the info to the corporate engineers to see if they have seen the issues. The engineers said to check the fueling system and everything came back great. Battery voltage was great. I’ll have more info on Tuesday but that’s all I have as of now

That's high mileage, so I'd start by replacing the plugs (very easy), and running fuel cleaner. Those 2 things are needed no matter what, so that's not throwing money away. It's possible you could have a fuel pump issue, since it's a known problem on 2.0Ts, but I'm not familiar with the symptoms. You might want to research that. But if both plugs and running fuel system cleaner doesn't fix the problem, the high-pressure fuel pump would be my next step if symptoms includes the ones you're having. If it was one of the coils, or a bad injector, they'd throw a code. Good luck.

Fuel system was my guess but they said it was running perfect. I had them do a gdi service to clean out the injectors of carbon since it’s definitely time and a few other things and called it a day. They were pretty stumped but I figured I would just go ahead and maintain a couple items if they’re not recommending anything. First drive afterwards ran super smooth so I hope it stays that way
