  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2 attempts

I have read this thread and just realized the indented "handle" discussed is what I thought was for how to escape the trunk after pulling the inside release. I have always closed the trunk by pushing it closed.
I have to confess, I owned a 3 series for years before I even realized it was there or what it was for. 😊

Inside handle? As in Inside the trunk? How do you avoid smashing your hand with the trunk lid?
You just pull down and let go. Momentum closes it. First car I had that on was my Sonata and it works well.

I love my two buttons. Close or close and lock. All 5 fingers intact.

If necessary the trunk can be closed manually but must be pushed down gradually to not force the mechanism.

I think “if necessary” is the key phrase. I wouldn’t make a habit of it.

This is an insane thread...and already talked about.

The trunk closes JUST FINE using the inner grab handle. Use some friggin muscle. My wife can do it every time as well.

If you seriously cannot close the trunk with one attempt (also without smashing the shit out of it)...you have some serious strength issues and I suggest lifting weights. If the short S.Koreans (no offence...just facts) can do it it without wining about it...pretty sure NA peeps can (male and female).

If this is really an issue...and you haven't bought yet...get a 2020 that has self close.
LOL! I have plenty of muscle as do I’m sure everyone else on this thread! Can we not mention something that seems to be a small issue that one can comment on?! GEEZ! RELAX! Once you realize that you have to pull down on it a little harder, it’s no big deal. Of course if you push it down from the top of the lid, which some may not wanna do if their car is clean to avoid the fingerprints, it’s no big deal..

Well now this is different, and sounds like a true issue. Once mine hits the latch, it’s closed and secure on the first time every time

Update on mine. Of course right after I come home from the dealer for routine service, my trunk wouldn't open either by using the release on the trunk, my key fob, or the switch on the driver dash. I saw that the LCD screen kept flashing to say that the trunk was open, even though it was closed. I pressed down a bit on the trunk and lo and behold, the trunk released. There's definitely an issue with the trunk latch on mine as it seems like it's not fully catching the trunk lid.

It's not a big deal so far and I'll just wait until my next service in June, but I can see it becoming annoying if I have issues opening it under pouring rain.

This is a useless thread. And for those of you who put there hand on top of the decklid and use force to shut it, you are putting finger dents in the aluminum. If you are so weak you can't close it normally then use the license plate.
Some of the threads on here amaze me.

Finger dents? 😂

Dontcha know the trunk is made of aluminum foil? I’ve owned 50 5 million dollar cars in the past and you have to go up to that level to get away from the aluminum foil. I swear some of the people on here that dont know basic facts amaze me :p

The existence of this thread is a clear indication that everyone is doing just fine, great economy and all!! Woot woot! First world problems for sure.

I would say every thread on this forum fits into that category. How we like the interior lighting, or the looks of the upcoming face lifted models, etc... All first world problems to be sure.

Until you factor in that every company looks like a winner because of tax cuts. The ones that looked like crap got a magic cloak that bought em a couple years 🤷‍♂️
