  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

You slow down for a red light and the car just burps and then shuts off, my wife drives the car and it is not a safe time I did have the crankcase position sensor replaced, started the car ran for about 1 minute and shut off started right up ran for about 1 minute and shut off tech is still trying to figure this thing out any help? THANKS JERRY

What codes does diagnostic give? Check the wires and connector to the CPS.

Did you check for pending codes also?

Alternator?

1. Check the battery terminal connections.
2. Replace the battery.

Loose battery connections or a bad battery can cause sudden shutdown in our cars. The computers will not run without a battery (gone are the old-school days of push-start) and are very sensitive to intermittent voltage.

Have you had the fuel tank air filter replaced? Have you had the fuel filter replaced? Also the fuel pump may be failing and the engine is starved for gas. It also could be contaminated gasoline.

The Genesis computer does not set OBD-II codes for a bad crankshaft position sensor unless the sensor does not respond when trying to start the engine... if it works and then craps out while the engine is running you'll get a stalled engine but no error codes.

Flaky connections on the battery can lead to stall issues too; the Genesis won't run on just the alternator the way older cars would run. So check the posts, and the chassis ground screw near the battery, as Gunkk already posted.

My 2009 V8/Tech developed a stall issue a while ago: it would stall while slowing for a red light or stop sign about 5 or so minutes after a stone-cold engine startup. It would restart easily; maybe stall again immediately but would again restart. Once past 10 minutes of run time it was reliable and would be reliable for the rest of the day. Parking overnight in the garage though was enough to make it want to stall 5 or 6 minutes after startup and only while slowing to a stop. No OBD-II error codes were ever set. The dealer re-seated every electrical connection they could and the problem went away for a few months. When it did return, it returned with a vengeance: the car stalled multiple times on a trip, well after the 10 minute mark. The next day it stalled a time or two, sometimes ran really rough (and that set a "misfire on cylinder #something" OBD-II error), and then it belched smoke out the tailpipe: basically massively excessive fuel. I began to wonder if a fuel injector was stuck open, flooding one cylinder. Towed it to the dealer.... they couldn't read error codes consistently. It turns out the engine computer had been dying before; now it was really kaput. $2K later and it's been fine ever since. The whole story is on another thread in this forum.

Note: if dealers ever replace the engine computer (variously called ECU, PCU, or PCM by folks) make sure they review the service bulletins and recalls to verify it has the current software load. My replacement computer took a while to get (did it come from Korea? Likely) and it had older software on it - it was at least two revisions out of date so the errors addressed/fixed by those service bulletins & software updates showed up on my car.

Jerry, could we have a few more condition details?
1: Does this happen only on a cold engine, only after it has warmed up, or does it happen all the time regardless of engine temp?
2: Do the lights on the dash or any lights go dim or flicker right before it does this?
3: Has it ever backfired either right as it died or when you go to restart it?
4: Do the brakes seem to get harder at low speeds? i.e. right before you stop and it dies.
5: The places/lights it has died at; are they located on any type of steep hill?
