  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Car will just crank and idle for a min or 2 and just die with no sputtering.

Recently replaced:fuel pump and filter assembly, fuel injector number 8, MAF, charcoal canister and solenoid, air filter, crankshaft sensor, cam position sensor.

I was only getting a cylinder 8 misfire code and then started getting multiple misfire codes so I changed the injector and camshaft/crankshaft sensor.

Starts up no problem, idles for a few mins then dies. No codes Being thrown.

I live data and nothing pops, fuel doesn't drop, spark and ignition all good, timing all good... Wtf?

Anyone have any guesses at this point? Located in Tyler TX.

One quirk of our cars is that they are more tolerant of misfires at idle (translation: the ECU will ignore some misfires at idle and not throw a CEL) than at higher RPM. So presuming it's otherwise safe, drive it a bit and see what CEL codes pop up.

My genuine internet diaguessnosis 100% of some of the time: intermittent electrical fault that gets hot, expands, and opens up just like the coils on old distributor-points cars. Take a good look at the terminal fuse block that sits on top of the battery. The bus bars inside are known to fail via fatigue, causing hairline cracks that manifest themselves as intermittent opens. And when they do they can exhibit the behavior you have described: the otherwise completely normal car will go dead stick black screen and completely die anywhere anytime. Simpler than that: loose battery terminal will do the same if battery loses connection while the car is running (the car will NOT operate only on the alternator without the battery).

Ammo for the parts cannon will get more and more expensive without a proper diagnosis. Gotta see what fails when it fails and test it while it's in a failed state, and that's probably going to be hard without a pico or GDS. Probably best to find the best automotive electrician in your area and pay them a pair of benjamins to figure it out.
