  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So I paid off my 2009 4.6 last month and two days ago the car died. Had an oil change about 6k miles ago and the dealership said the engine was bone dry of oil and the engine seized. Only 68k miles on the car. No warning light about oil, no check engine light, nothing. It just died. Should this be covered by the extended warranty?

If you have service records showing oil changes and you're under 100k miles I think its worth a shot.

Should this be covered by the extended warranty?

The bad news is....no. Letting the oil level drop would be considered negligence and outside the support of the warranty (which is designed to cover manufacturing defects only).

The only thing that might have an impact on this is if you could prove the oil level dropped suddenly as a result of a faulty oil filter, drain cap etc.

This is why I check my oil a couple of times a week. Warning lights can fail. A dip stick cannot fail but it has to be used.

Who did the last oil change?

I know it is too later now, but whenever something like that happens, I would check the oil before they tow it. I don't trust dealers. I would think that an oil pressure light would go off if it was bone dry.

Bummer. Sorry for your loss.
