  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2009 4.6 Replaced Spark Plugs

Bought plugs from the dealership at $11.XX each and hired a local mechanic to install them. I helped and watched mostly but he had to take all the plastic off the front along with the air filter box. He had all the right tools and it took him 2hrs.

A Hyundai shop might do it quicker but I was only charged $60 bucks for the work.

So all in at around $155.

The plugs with 100K on them looked dirty however still in tact. They did look like they needed to be replaced.

Will spark plugs make the car run better? for some reason I feel like my car is riding better than ever before....

Placebo affect?

I recently replaced mine at around 115,000 miles, and I can't really tell much difference. The plugs that came out actually looked quite nice and like they possibly didn't even need to be replaced. It took me hours to do it and I think I re-invented the profanity dictionary in the process!

My mechanic replaced my serpentine belt and my plugs over the weekend . I must say my car runs a bit smoother since I had it done . It also seems to start smoother !!! Maybe it was just my imagination running away with me ( in my temptations voice ) . Next up Shocks and struts , any suggestions on brands ?

My Genny is a 2009 4.6L with approximately 105,xxx miles, and I purchased the spark plugs about 6 months ago -- I was waiting to buy a house with a garage (previously lived in a townhouse with nosy neighbors) before doing the work. I wanted to double check that the spark plug socket is 5/8"? Definitely will pick up some swivel extensions to do the job. However, I'm very surprised that there are not a ton of videos on YouTube for doing this for the V8 since it's been around for 10 years. Any additional tips or caveats that haven't been mentioned already? Wish me luck!

The v8 4.6 is easy.

The v8 4.6 is easy.

It took sheltering in place for me to finally attempt to install these plugs. Finally got a house with a garage, and my neighbors work on their cars too and are willing to lend a helping hand. Now I certainly wouldn't call these easy, easy to me is changing plugs on a 4 cylinder with nothing blocking your way. I'm STILL not done, I have that one PITA rear plug on the drivers side to finish. Changing these plugs requires you to get creative with the angles, even with swivel extensions. Getting those clips to slide back for the coil pack plugs was not always easy (tight spaces). The third plug (from the front) on both the driver and passenger sides gave me a bit of difficulty getting the right angle for the spark plug socket and for the coil pack bolts. Anyway, the job is almost done, and it took me approximately 2 and a half hours, and I am still not done.

Of course if one had to do this over again, it would probably take half the time.
